#Post

Please whats yours? I have people coming for dinner but they have no idea what time so I thought instead of trying to hold the meal for ages, I would do a crockpot dish, then it should still be ok whenever they show up, I'm vain enough to want the food to still be semi fabulous, so any ideas most appreciated even non crockpot ideas, TIA

my old in a hurry stand by fav: chop up any of the following and throw in with chicken pieces/cassarole or stewing steak/sasauges - chunky chopped carrot/parsnip/kumera/spud/bro-
c/cauli/onion/mixed veg/apple/(apricots with the chicken)/mushrooms/capsicans/f-
resh or tined toms. then i just add any of the following herbs etc: soya sauce/worshire sauce/chilly sauce/hoising sauce/garlic/ginger/mushroom stock/beef stock/cumin/garamasala/etc
then just cover with water and add cornflour mixed in water to a paste and add that before the cooking starts so that the thickening happens as it cooks. put it on as ya walk out the door or head off to bed at night - just lovely....

we then serve it with rice or baked spud, herb or garlic butter with rolls or fresh cob loaf

Then I added

Cooked it for 6 hours on low, the meat was very tender....

Bolar roast is fantastic in crockpot. I put some oil in crockpot first so meat won't stick to base, I just wiped the oil around the base and sides.
Then oiled the meat a little as well and rolled in packet of Maggi Mushroom Soup.
That's all, left it for 5 hours on high, and a lovely gravy stock came out and the meat just broke away so tenderly, it was so tasty.

Crockpot Swiss Steak

1-1/2 kgs. beef round steak, cut 3/4 inch thick
3 teaspoons flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons oil
1 can tomatoes diced is better
1 small onion, sliced
1 stalk celery, sliced (optional)
2 medium carrots, sliced
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup water
Cut meat into pieces that will fit in your crockpot. Combine flour, salt,
mustard, pepper, and garlic powder. Pound 2 tablespoons of the flour mixture
into the meat. Brown the meat in the oil on both sides. After
browning meat, transfer to crockpot. Stir remaining flour into pan drippings
in the skillet. Stir in the remaining ingredients and cook until thick and
bubbly. Pour over meat in the crockpot. Cook on low for 8 to 10 hours. Serve
with hot cooked noodles/ rice/ creamed potatoes etc

Thank you so much for your answers, yes I freely admit that crockpot is probably not gourmet but needs must. :)

Maggi Chicken Chassaur. If I am pressed for time.
I brown the onion and skinless chicken pieces and a few mushrooms are nice too, the night before.
Leave in the fridge over night and throw it all in the crockpot with a Maggi Chicken Chassaur pkt mixed with water poured over.Cook on low, this is my old faithful and I haven't struck anyone who hasn't enjoyed it including children.Only thing i, if it is for more than three I find I need to use two pkts.
If it is just for family I put in the potatoes washed with the skin on, peeled kumara, and carrots as well.
That just leaves something green such as peas or spinach is nice.

Hi Jase320,
What sort of vinegar do you use in the Tarragon Chicken? Just white, or malt, or something fancy? :)

Morrocan Chicken - there is no real recipie for it but you make something similar to casserole but add cinamon and dried fruits. Make sure to add smoked paprika, cumin, corriander.... Serve with a Couscous - I love the Israeli Couscous with its pearl like grains.

bugger forgot the water! lol i make it about 1/2-1inch from the top, then when i get home i take the hock out and take all the meat of, shred it with my fingers into smaller bits and put it back in. ALSO when your putting your veges in, in the morning pack them in as when you take the hock out before serving theres alot of space left over...

I don't have time to type out the recipe, but the other day I made the 'roast' whole chicken with spicy paprika rub, from the Simon/Alison Holst 100 great ways to use crockpots book. Wow, it was one of the nicest meals i'd had in ages! really lovely.

boozy beef - gravy beef, onions, carrots, bay leaf, 1 tin guinness, streaky bacon, bouquest garni. roll beef cubes in seasoned flour, and pop in crockpot. fry off onions, bacon and carrots in oil and add to crockpot. Add the herbs and all the guinness. Cook on low for as long as you can. Serve with mash and green veges- savoy cabbage is my favourite. You might have to take off the lid about 1 1/2 hours before to thicken the gravy - and put it on high at this point. Mmmmm - really wintery dish.

Hi All
Winter is approaching so out comes the crockpot...yummy...
There is a great site
www.trademecooks.net.nz which started because you can loose some wonderful recipes time after time because they drop to the end. This site is the place where those wonderful recipes have been added. It takes a little bit of navigation but they are there. Enjoy

Oh my gosh! Trade Me Cooks is back!!! Last I heard (read) it had been removed as the lady (Eden?) didn't have time for it. Yay for Trade Me Cooks!
