chromecast disappeared from my computer

#Post
1

Until 4 days ago, I had been able to use chromecast to watch programmes/films on streaming services. The chromecast icon has disappeared off my computer. I disconnected it and used another HDMI port to reload it. I got the message chromecast and then the google icon, both were on a otherwise blank and black TV screen. I try the more tools in the extension files, go to cast/ or cast to device but I get the message device not found. this is a laptop I am using and have both google chrome and microsoft edge. I have tried both but the chromecast icon or even the set up that I had to do last year have not come up... Can anyone help me please?

Try resetting the chromecast. I had to do that after an update once

The little chromecast "box of tricks" is plugged into an HDMI port and either a USB port or a power supply... the chromecast box is still being powered ??
As stated the chromecast box is similar to many bits of electronic kit... they very often benefit from a turning off, awaiting 30 second and then turning on again !!

I'm not entirely clear what you are saying here. A Chromecast dongle is a thing you plug into your TV to receive streaming services through your home WiFi.

You will have applications on your laptop or phone, such as Netflix or Neon that enable you select some content and then to to get the Chromecast dongle to receive the selected content from the WiFi. Think of it being like the TV's remote.

As well as the steaming service apps such as Netflix on your phone you can also download another app called "Google Home" on your phone which can control the dongle directly. It used to be called "Chromecast" IIRC.

I don't believe there is a Windows version of Google Home.

Netflix does go through a few crappy patches from time to time, but hardly a steaming service ;)

In the words of the immortal and tired technician

"Have you tried turning it off and back on again?"

Make sure your Chromecast dongle, on the back of your TV, is powered. Unplug it, then replug it in the port you were previously using, change only one thing at a time.

So recreate the icon, if you really must have a separate icon for it.

Or just:
On your computer, open Chrome.
At the top right, click More More and then Cast.
