How to watch Overseas TV Show

#Post
1

Watch TVondemand and Neon on Laptop, only involves setting up with a password. Want to watch a particular series, so thought subscribe to something else but stuck working out if they show it in NZ and how to sign up.Series Wistling, So I googled
Prime -Amazon says subscribe and watch, click that it gives you a further choice of Acorn, AMC and Sundance. Acorn takes you to acorn Aust and doesnt show that series in Aust and Sundance says can't watch in NZ
and if did would have to pay 2 subs subs Amazon prime + Acorn.

I tried Netflix says not available on Netflix New Zealand you "MAY" be able to unlock in NZ,

19,

Followed link to "Change your Netflix Country" takes to pg paying for Express VPN.
Ok so confused some people have said getting a VPN doesn't meant it will work & you'll be able to get these shows others say get a paid one not a free one.. Plus I don't really know how VPNs work. I would have to pay for VPN plus sub for Netflix??
Any help appreciated

yes most VPN's are pay for services, and are not associated with the streaming services, because they are used to circumvent geolocking that streaming services like netflix are beholden to by the copyright holder.
For instance, say the maker of wistling made an exclusive deal with TVNZ, that would mean netflix, even if they paid to stream the same show would have to block access to it in NZ.
Netflix is also very good at detecting VPN streams and will block them after a time, making the VPN service change server IP's & settings quite regularly to keep up. it's all very tedious.

Sometimes it seems easier to just try and get a good old dvd of the series. Obviously they are going to be a season behind (at least)

Here is season one found from a quick google. Haven't checked to see if this website is legit or anything

Well if you need a VPN here's a referral link for Surfshark which seems to work pretty good. I think it gets you a free month or so...

My daughter tried Surfshark so she could sign up to HBO in the US. It didn't work well so I took a look

You can select which ZIP code in the US you appear from and it looked pretty reasonable; geolocation of IP showed the right area. But HBO kept rejecting her. Changing regional setting in Windows (to US) seemed to help, but first thing she watched had horrible streaming quality, buffering and dropped out fully an hour into the movie.

Can't recommend.

Fustrating that US companies still won't work globally despite examples like Squid game that shows that people can deal with international content

hmm never had that problem, but I don't use HBO.
Regional restrictions are due to licensing and probably price setting reasons, nothing to do with with users can handle the content

It's all about selling the rights - nothing to do with "dealing with international content".
In this region for example, HBO have a broadcast deal, selling shows to Sky. It would make no sense for HBO to then make their US app available in this market would it?
