Sony TV Won't turn on

#Post
1

I have a Sony KDL-55HX750 and its decided not to turn on. I've done all the reset suggestions such as disconnecting everything and waiting, then trying again and still no joy. The red LED is flashing 6 times and I've been unable to find out what code error that is. TV is over 5yrs old. Any ideas? Sony help desk wants me to send it in. Thanks

I have just Googled the problem (Sony TV error codes) and the answer came up straight away.

Suggest you do the same.

Something to do with the backlight although I did not read it all.

Maybe you could post them a link to that answer?

Sorry haven't the time

Perhaps they are as capable as me of using Google?

It seems common.
Backlights/LEDs are not working.
If you can do this sort of work then you can fix it yourself, otherwise maybe send to Sony or toss it out (as it will die again on some other day).

Serious ? When you googled it, it would have taken seconds to copy/paste it here.

Have you change the battery in your remote?

Potentially a very relevant point !
All tv's should have a physical button on them you could try that ?

I am curious to know why you would belie your TM moniker and deliberately write an argumentative post?
Perhaps you are not really what you say you are, or would like to have everybody believe you are?

Nice lady can be quite un nice when called for. Something I've always quite liked about her, I find myself saying "nice one!"

Perhaps none of us are really who we say we are. Perhaps your images are not always perfect. Perhaps the King isn't really Elvis.

So, back on track to the problem at hand. I have now solved the problem so if anyone else has the same issue, here's how I fixed it.
6 Blinking lights means there is an error with the back lights.
I bypassed the wire ( labelled BL-ERR) that tells the main board there is a problem so now the TV turns on. I can see which side the back lights are faulty as the screen is darker than the rest.
As the tv is 10yrs old, I'll put up with it till I can afford a new set.
Hope this helps anyone else in the future.

Yep........and the tv is 10 years old ? Thats considerably older than in the original post where you said it was 'over 5 years old' lol.

But sorted and you did well.

Just as an interesting aside , We work at an Electrical / electronic recycling /repurposing unit,(Actually like most of these units we don't do any of that, we just dismantle and scrap !I ) ...I have noticed that the failure rate of TV s is getting shorter, quicker ? Some coming in now ,are less than 5 years old the occasional one less than 3 years old ,...Mostly Toshiba and Veon, and Sony....are these TV s made especially for the big red box ? ....as they are creating a land fill ...disposal problem !

We just fixed our 10/11 yr old LG for $420.
Was the main mother board $280 delivered.
Tech install $140

TV picture is better than new, as the new board was an upgrade and has more features than the old one.
On here, people were saying dump it, it can't be fixed, you won't get parts for it, new ones are better with higher refresh and 4k something, etc.
Tech said, most 4k is not ready in NZ or available, and refresh is for gamers.

He was more than happy with ours, but said there are newer tv's that he can't get parts for.
