We are a family of three, with an inside cat and an outside only dog.
Due to a change in employment we seek a house to rent within the Masterton surrounds urgently within the next two weeks.
Do you have a 2/3 brm property available or know of one becoming available soon we’d appreciate you contacting as soon as possible.
Please contact asap

Have you checked trade me? There are five houses on there at the moment. Though having a dog will make it harder when there is a rental shortage.

Get rid of the animals and your chances will treble.

Advice from the Minister of Finance - 'look elsewhere'.

If the house and section are suitable for keeping a dog - then it’s usually fine. If the place has no fence or no section then it’s not.

A lot of landlords don't like dogs in their properties because of the damage they can do. There is a lack of rentals in the Wairarapa already so competition is tough, so pet free tenants are going to get a house a lot easier than someone with a dog.

It is very hard to tell people how to get ahead in life when renting is to ditch the animals , eliminate the costs while renting put all possible money into savings. Got to start saving for a house sometime and the sooner the better

The ones who cause the most trouble and property damage are solo Mums and their mysterious boyfriends that soon turn up. Families with a dog are marvellous in comparison.

when we had a rental we rented to a solo mum, and then a couple of months later found out her bf lived there too. No deliberate damage and always paid rent on time. We have dogs but I probably wouldn't rent to someone that had dogs, as I know what damage they can do. Luckily for me we no longer have a rental so don't have the stress anymore.

I thought i read something on new tenancy rules coming where landlords couldn,t stop tenants having pets.
Just googled housing nz is going to allow pets but I thought landlords were going to have to allow them as well.

So let's say you're a tennant looking for a flat and I'm a landlord. You rock up with dog or cat and want to rent. The answer will always be "no, the place is already let".

So how logical is a government mandate that animals should be allowed? Accomodation is short enough anyway without housing pets in human accomodation.

Unfortunately rather a lot of real estate proposals are being passed under urgency. Consequences ....

Sometimes I think that owning a pet falls in the "god given right" department.

Several years ago there was a TV series that an "expert" went into a family / home of someone who was on the "bones of their bum" and having problem with debt / budgets etc, and they advised. It never ceased to amaze me that the expert never said "get rid of Rover he is costing you $x per week to keep"!. It was if getting rid of Rover was as unthinkable as selling one of the kids into slavery !!

In most cases it is. Never forget the mental benefits of the family pet. There are often plenty of other things that can be cut that would save money.

Its the same thing with homeless people - as a social worker in London once explained to me. To a homeless person, their dog is often the one "person" that loves them unconditionally and doesn't judge them. Also often gives them something to live for.

but what happens when rover gets sick and they can't afford medical treatment? Does the dog just suffer?
