Cosimo I looked at NZ Issues last time TM pulled certain boards

The level of abuse, lack of common courtesy and lax moderation has really put me off. I know you can 'ignore' certain posters but is this possible for whole boards over there?

Then what happens if the overtly RWingers fill up the Real Estate MB with their political trash talk and 'Cindy' reckons.

The Real Estate MB here is helpful, knowledgeable. It is much gentler than some of the boards on NZissues. I dislike the smart alec one liners and lack of critical thinking and informed discussions there. .

I will also miss the puns.

I'd prefer that the board was reincarnated somewhere else.

shanreah, you are forgetting or ignoring that there is still a lot of abuse going on in the TM message boards, even though the worst have been removed.

For those who generally post in a specialist area, like Real Estate, there is no need to go trawling through the American politics and other threads one finds distasteful. Stick with what you want, not with what you don't.

As for your other comment, yes, you can ignore a specific poster, a specific thread, or a whole forum (message board). There is no need to see anything you find annoying, offensive or infuriating.

I had a quick look... what I'd like to know is, do they allow 'hate speech' - like racism etc, because I saw a LOT of that in the few minutes I was there. Are there not moderators that stop that? Rules that prevent it? What's the go with that?

Sorry lyl guy for leaping in and supporting your post.

Yes I see that.

Very lax moderation aka 'free speech'. Yeah right. There is even unmoderated inter poster name calling (ad homs) that I find very juvenile. Lots of political 'reckons' and that is OK if you are looking for that. I am not. I am an issues-based person and many of the issues I like to discuss don't have or shouldn't have, a political slant.

My fear is that Real Estate, being a flashpoint subject, would attract the very 'politics at all costs members' that make that site distasteful to me. If this could be avoided, no interest in a political slant and very interested in the helpful nature of THIS board being carried forward then perhaps I would look at it.

It would need active moderation to achieve this and not the 'laissez faire' stuff that passes for moderation now.

I would be interested in some feedback on the moderation issue and the control of 'isms'.

Did it or does it have a ban on Vaccine immunisation misinformation/disinformation for instance ie good corporate citizen approach?

I was one of the early joiners at tmmb (I used my TM name, but I've changed it since), and I really loved the more gentler style. I might just go back, coz it needs a bit of a rev up, as it never really got going.

Agreed, tried both, prefer TMMB, though NZ Issues has a good music thread.

I second the comments about NZ Issues. I looked when it started and again when the TMMB announcement was made and the level of discussion and behaviour put me off. Like Parenting multiplied.

There is no reason to go to any boards on ******** that you don’t enjoy. Join just for music, recipes, motoring, real estate. Many posters on TM specialise - ******** allows you to do the same.

Those of you that checked out nz issues at the beginning are quite correct, there were a group of posters that were there just to cause trouble for the admin of the site, they were nasty, foul and damn right disgusting, one in particular had about 5 or 6 different accounts and was just there to destroy admins rep. it took a while but the admin sorted out the trouble makers and banned them.
As Cosimo said you do not have to go into the threads that you find do not suit you.
There is an influx of new members at the moment and I'm sure some of them will be the nasty posters you can find on here and other MB's but the admin over there is now more experienced at showing them the door, he is very fair in that he will ban them for a week or two and see if they will follow the rules, if they can't then out they go.
You can message the admin personally or use the report button.
It is a fun and informative place once you get used to it.

It’s very hard to ban misinformation emanating from the Government.

Meanwhile a health worker intends to get four shots of a vaccine because the Health Ministry does not recognise overseas vaccinations. An anti-vaxxer couldn’t make that up.

If the health worker does not want to get the recognised vaccine they should be struck off. They are a disgrace.

You should’ve read the article. They’ve already been vaccinated, hence why they are intending to get a fourth shot. Did the clinical trials feature people having four shots?

I agree. They may of course be one of the 100 or so people in NZ who have an actual allergy to one or other of the ingredients in the vaccine.

This seemed apt. Already posted on the board a few days ago.

The point is though that the politics at all costs cabal there will more than likely go to the Real Estate thread with their political reckons. Coupled with the lax moderation.........

I won't go there, in fact I probably won't go anywhere. I will just accept that this time of great politics-free boards, good real estate advice plus free puns is over.

Who is 'you'? I haven't been likened to a feral before.

Sure, some people are not 'like' me and some don't like me;. the ability to tolerate or ignore those who get up your nose or extremists is something most people learn in real life. Same on a message board that allows you to filter out individual posters, particular threads or whole message boards that aren't to your liking.

No it is much worse than that.

Hate speech,
abusive or threatening speech or writing that expresses prejudice against a particular group, especially on the basis of race, religion, or sexual orientation.

'Muppet Slayer' sounds like anti-muppet hate speech to me. Maybe racist too, if Muppets are a race.

Much bigger and international, but the r/NewZealand and r/PersonalFinanceNZ are good.

Younger crowd, so lots of 'I am a FHB, I want to buy a nice house in a nice area and they are all too expensive, NZ is so overpriced I am going to Australia'

(And yes, few have actually checked the price of housing in Melbourne/Sydney
