Free MS Office Download

#Post
1

Is it possible to download and install a recent version of MS Office to my Windows 10 Pro 64 bit laptop completely for free? All the sites I've looked at seem to have limitations, hooks, hidden costs or limited time frames to run. If so, what website can do this? All help and suggestions appreciated.

Ms Office is a commercial product. It's not free.

You could instead install Libre Office . It IS free. And damn good.

Unless you have a specific need for MICROSOFT office Libre will do more than you could ever need.

None of these links appear to make any mention of MS Office NOT being free - misleading, perhaps?

Why would you download a Microsoft product from anywhere but Microsoft? Merely looking at the names of some of those links makes my internal firewall start to add more bricks.

Just for the record, you don't have to look hard to find misleading stuffs on the internets..........

@callum.irvine Thanks for that - I had already found that one, but as you can see from my first post, I'm looking for the 64 bit version - it doesn't seem to be on that page, only 32 bit related stuff.

I say again:

You could instead install Libre Office . It IS free. And damn good.

is there a reason you specifically require Microsoft Office or are you just needing an Office suite program ?

What exactly do you think is the difference in 32 & 64 bit office? your first post doesn't say you are looking for 64 bit office it says you have windows 10 pro 64 bit, which will run both 32 bit and 64 bit software perfectly.

My observation is that the Office download from Microsoft has been free for some years. However, the license isn't free once the trial period expires.

With the more recent versions you generally need to sign-up for the trial or buy the office version you require before you can actually download it... The goto place to install it is the MS Account with which it was purchased...

and as mentioned, if you do find the installer somewhere, you still need a paid license (either purchased outright or subscription) to actually use it...

32/64 bit version will both work fine on 64bit windows

ALL downloads are Free. It's the subsequent use of the software which is NOT in many situations. Of course the 'Free Download' is a hook that has caught many people over the years.

Another hook is the Office365 pre-installed on computers, even after you install an older version there are some circumstances where it pops up (I think one of them is opening a compressed Office document directly from email, rather than extracting and saving it first before opening it). When this happens it's easy to mistake Office365 from your older version, and then it starts nagging you to buy a license.

Sucked in by the marketing machine that is Microsoft.

Seriously, you don't need to pay stupid amounts of money for most software, there are tons of quality free alternatives.

Aye, but it looks good on your CV if you have expertise in Office.

Expertise in office ? That takes a LOT of learning and constant updating. I'm no expert but I can create docs, xls, ppt to some extent. But 'expertise' is something far in advance of what I can do.

OFFICE 2000 is still available for free and runs just fine on Windows 10 64 bit. https://msfn.org/board/topic/143718-office-2000-o2ksr1adlexe

After installing, you will need to download & instal SP3 update.

Plenty of them on here. This seller seems trustworthy, has sold hundreds of them. He does office 2019 for $50 and also $1 reserves if you want to try your luck. 3311490471

can't see anything genuine in that. He is selling them for a 1/3 of the price of any other retailer in NZ including MS. Might as well just buy the keys off Amazon...

It's on my CV too, (IT) but I use Libre at home, also Webdrive used it exclusively also.

Expertise or user? Huge difference.

Reminds me of the time I was operations manager of a company. Twice, I asked youngsters in two different locations to do a stock take using Excel.

Twice I got a spreadsheet with umpteen lines similar to "27 XYZ widgets at 4c" in a cell, and they used a calculator to insert the cost in the next column and also to total the column...

I'm no expert either, but in the days when you got a manual with the software, spent many a happy hour just randomly opening a page. It was either:

a) I know that
b) That could be useful
c) I don't need to know that

Since a client's IT specialist wrote up a really good Excel "LookUp" formula for me, 20 years ago, it was the golden key.

I even wrote up a company's MRP2 interlinked production planning, operation's library, product costing, labour control, labour recovery, operative bonus system, and reporting systems, just using Excel! Doesn't make me an expert, but something that I was very proud of!

Remember the flight simulator built into the old versions of Excel?
