Cockroaches

#Post

I have just moved into this rental and have noticed three of the large variety.
The landlord has offered to spray but I've been advised to have this done professionally. And I'm prepared to pay for it. I would like to know if you have found this to be successful and...better still....can you recommend someone reliable.

The "large" variety are just native ones, they're not the "dirty" kind. Put them outside and forget about it.

Just a strong dose of Ripcord around the doorways and foundations, will keep them away from the house for a few years.
Do the wood shed and garage too.

Don't use the premade stuff, get the concentrated bottle.
I'd go with the LL doing it.

The ones inside will die, the ones outside will stay away.

Sounds like they are Gisborne cockroaches (actually Australian). They are not a problem. They live outside in the garden and just come in occasionally. You can kill or catch and release the few that you find inside. There is no need for dramatic pest control with these ones.

To do it right, it's a big job & may be a bit of a fright on a personal level as you discover just how much junk you DO have
Ideally, you need to do a good dose with an empty house, that way you can spray ALL the edges/ shelving inside & outside the dwelling & have time for it to dry & air out properly.

But yea, thats not often possible.
With summer coming up now, it's a good time to start a multi prong session of mist spray inside (Eg: Mortain bug spray auto cans) followed up a few days later with the likes of Ripcord spray.
That should deal to it for a year or two, but that also depends on keeping the property free of household rubbish

Yep agreed.
Those are Nicknamed Gisborne cockroaches, (up to about 35mm long)
It's those light tan colored 5mm / 10mm bugs that are kitchen food scavengers

The small german ones are the problem. You have to lay bait for them. Daughter has had them in two different rentals. Her second one and her current one, the fifth. The PM at the first place she had them wanted to get a cleaner in. They insisted on an exterminator. He was very good so she used him for the place they are in now. No more bugs after nearly two years, just a resident mouse that will not be long for this world.

In the Rast Coast Bays?
As above they are not a problem but scare the girls in the house.

Catch and release. Keep plant foliage away from windows and doors.

We got the german cockroaches we think from a delivered pizza box during lockdown last year. Used Pest Norwest to get rid of them, and again last summer for wasp nest. Very good service. East coast bays.
