I just want to go to sleep I think I might know the answer. During lockdown we've both been working at the dining table and DH has a morning ritual of going out to get the newspaper and mail from the letterbox. One day last week he came in smirking and handed me a piece of paper. It said, "Hello, The music playing at night is very loud and noisy. It's disturbing sleep. Please consider neibours (sic). Thanks. OMG! I was mortified. I've been playing the new ABBA songs and singing along in the evenings. Our usually busy street is quiet due to lockdown and I think these particular neighbours usually work nights but obviously not at the moment. Needless to say, I've toned it down and don't play any music after 9.30pm now. Ironically, I actually can sing (professionally trained)! wasala - 2021-10-16 18:37:00 |

24 | I am lucky I don't have many, but one is causing a few issues with not being home and barking dogs. I think the dogs have been rehomed across to the next street. This guy takes them everywhere with him when he can. We do have some music issues when they are in their gym setup. The thumping can be annoying. Apparently they have been starting early in the morning some days. I haven't heard them. Another neighbour runs two rural delivery routes along with the courier run. Now they can be a pain at times with the radios in the vans playing loud music. Fortunately it only happens occasionally. joanie04 - 2021-10-17 13:25:00 |

31 | I have just had three nights of fire works. Hopefully they have all finished for now. I went outside for a look and the cloud of smoke hanging over the ones down by our shops was quite impressive even in the dark, and loud. A friend who lives near Ahipara said the sky was quite bright. She can see into Kaitaia and towards my place. Honestly it was starting to sound like a war zone, to the left, right and front. Thank goodness for paddocks out the back lol. joanie04 - 2021-11-06 11:58:00 |

Same here but luckily only last night - very loud though and my dog was cowering all night - apart from the noise how do people afford that many fireworks? Call me a killjoy but you might as well set fire to $20 notes. sarahb5 - 2021-11-06 12:55:00 |

Yes one night and ten pm max for letting them of, time to get tough again, we dont need to ban them, but maby make entitled idiots squirm abit, they will be hurting so badly they will likely sulk and never buy any again, asfar as animals go, peoples dogs get to wind me up 360 days a year, i havent got any fireworks for ten years or over, but the only thing that comes to mind is revenge when i think about it ha ha ha, remember well behaved dogs and urban fireworks shutting of at 10pm, coming to you very soon once again, i will be takeing a mop to grog and junkfood with eye watering taxes to, the pen is mightier than the sword. Selfish git aren’t you? If you can’t hear dogs barking because of fireworks it just means sensible, caring and responsible owners are keeping them inside. Doesn’t mean the dogs aren’t still scared, cowering and shaking. Fireworks at all times of the night mean it’s difficult to know when I can let mine out in the garden before bed without him getting a fright and bolting. sarahb5 - 2021-11-07 09:47:00 |
38 | Night five of fireworks. And I can here a lot of the outside dogs barking in between the fireworks. If mine is outside (if I am not home) she has a safe place she goes and hides. She also hates thunder. joanie04 - 2021-11-07 21:38:00 |

I take mine out on a lead around that time owing to her finding a hedgehog when I first moved in to the house and proudly announcing it to the whole neighbourhood ......at midnight lol But seriously, I do use a lead for last toilet stop before bed around Guy Fawkes night. Although she's not really worried by them I prefer not to take the chance. It was relatively quiet round here this year, but the sooner they're banned apart from public displays the better. When I lived in the student area of Dunedin years ago it was like being in the middle of Beruit on Guy Fawkes night. My wee foxie I had at the time was terrified. Yep. And this is what the rest of the country looks like to. Those muts can tremble under a table for a couple of hours. Since there owners cant bring themselfs to yell "shut up" to them once in a while, because they turned there dogs into gods. They are poor pet choices there are plenty of others for those who are unwilling to discipline them for the sake of other peoples sanity. As much as i hate people letting fireworks of past ten pm and throughout the rest of the week or year. 360 day a year yelping muts top it by far. And on what planet is yelling at a traumatised animal going to be any help whatsoever? It’s people like you who have fuelled his anxiety issues which is why he’s a rescue dog. You're missing the point - whilst in general shouting at dogs is considered as unproductive and negative by pretty much anyone who is involved in dog training, sarahhb is making the point that the dog is barking because they are already scared at the banging - shouting at a dog (which is an attempt to exert dominance from frightening them into submission) is completely the wrong thing to do. We all use voice commands - "stop", "leave", "lets go", but when the dogs scared, they need comfort, not being made more scared. sparkychap - 2021-11-08 16:50:00 |
