Cannot use a USB 3 DVD player on Desktop.

#Post

I bought a new Desktop PC and installed W10, then went onto Insider and installed W11.
My new PC didn't have a DVD player but decided I wanted to watch some old fishing videos on DVD discs so I bought a USB 3 portable DVD player. When I plug it in it fires off but it doesn't show up on File Explorer. Device Manager shows a HP DVD. Tried uninstalling it and re-booting, deleting driver and trying to download a new one. Ran Troubleshooter too but all to no avail.
Spent (wasted) hours on this. Any solutions?

try different usb ports, try it in another pc - but otherwise I would say take it back, they either work or they don't

Did you actually put a disc in it?
The drive on my new build showed up in Devices but not in Explorer or My PC until I put a DVD in it and it had some content to show!

Yes, tried several different disks including a game, an installation of W10 as well as fishing DVDs. The players kicks into action but shows..

It may need powered USB port

All USB ports supply power. Some devices need more than what is supplied from a single USB port. In that instance sometimes you'll need a "Y" USB cable. This had two USB plugs on one end to supply extra power. OR the device will have a power input plug hole and you should have info either on the device, or on a supplied spec sheet, to say what power input is required.

Does the PC support USB 3? If not buy a PCI adapter with USB 3.

OP says it's a new PC, it should have USB 3 ports coloured blue, red or yellow. And the cable supplied with the USB 3 DVD player should have been a USB 3 cable. And the USB 3 standard is backwards compatible with USB 2, so even if they use a USB 2 cable or black USB 2 port it should still work.

The supplied cable has a blue USB plug.
Tried all the ports on PC- white, blue, yellow and red.
No joy.
Could be broken but seller from China here on TM!!
Tried it on a W10 laptop, too with no results.
Thanks everyone
