Exterior railings code for decks over 1m ?

hi there I've been to council and a like for like upgrade is okay for our deck , a friend who's a builder is doing it , just the balustrade railings , what is the code height and width for railings please ? I think it's minimum height of 1m we will do them at 1150 above code I think , does anyone know the width required ? Thanks in advance :)

I would say the 1.2m rule applies as it is for pools - 1.2m from top of deck to top of handrail. Handrail is ex 150x50 on edge, balustrades are ex 50x50 with the maximum gap of 100mm from memory

Handrail needs to be no less than 1000mm from deck. Balusters are readily available pre-made at 40x40 (I think) x 1200mm long

I should be able to quote you all the regulations off the the top of my head but the manual is stored away and hopefully never to be needed again 1000 high and 100 max between verticals comes to mind. The thing to watch for is if you use shaped balusters is that the 100 is measured on turned section ,not the top or bottom . It is safety measure to stop children putting their heads through the balusters.

Thanks that makes sense , will make the bottom of rails to top of balustrade 1150 so well above code , still think the timber that runs across the bottom isn't great as a child's feet could use that as a climbing spot , but all decks seem to have it
