Hard floors or carpet in dining/family room?

#Post
1

We have beech wood floors in our kitchen and entranceway which i love and carpet in the dining and family room plus the 2nd lounge. If and when the carpet needs renewing i am wondering if i do wooden floor planking in the whole dining/family area as well as the kitchen. What is your preference and why? Thanks

Carpet fan here, so much warmer and quieter.

I've got wood but would prefer a carpet that doesn't show marks. I think like pig-gal said above, carpet is warmer and quieter.

Another vote for carpet. But only wool carpet.

I also think vacuuming carpet is a whole lot easier than sweeping and mopping a large area of wooden planking.

We have half and half - hardwood in kitchen extends to the dining area, but then switches to carpet halfway across the room for the family bit where sofas / TV are.

Works well for us, we can just mop the kitchen and dining area regularly and if there are spills.

Another one for carpet, only poor people have bare floor boards

I would have hard floors in the dining and family rooms and large rugs cut from the same carpet as the lounge to go under the dining table and in the family room, they are easier to clean and replaceable if necessary.

I love the modern look of wooden plank flooring but i also love the cosiness of carpet on a wet winter day or evening.

Hard wood floors any day, actually wood ones though not the ones that seem to be he trend now and look fake. Relative has just done a new build with under floor heating and solid wood floors, very warm with no socks on, no creaking and looks amazing

We just changed ours last year to laminate tile in the dinning and family room. Easier to clean under the dining table, especially after the grandkids have been :) but also in summer when we use the kitchen, family room and patio as entertaining/barbecue area. We thought it might be cold as we have concrete floors but they are poly insulated and any difference is barely noticeable. Carpet in bedrooms and main lounge.

got pets? I'd avoid carpet if I had fur shedding, pukey, this corner looks nice for a piss, cause its raining out... pets.
