Hard floors or carpet in dining/family room?

| 1 | We have beech wood floors in our kitchen and entranceway which i love and carpet in the dining and family room plus the 2nd lounge. If and when the carpet needs renewing i am wondering if i do wooden floor planking in the whole dining/family area as well as the kitchen. What is your preference and why? | 10 | We have half and half - hardwood in kitchen extends to the dining area, but then switches to carpet halfway across the room for the family bit where sofas / TV are. | 16 | We just changed ours last year to laminate tile in the dinning and family room. Easier to clean under the dining table, especially after the grandkids have been :) but also in summer when we use the kitchen, family room and patio as entertaining/barbecue area.
