| My chromebook has reached its update use by date. l don't like getting rid of items that are perfectly useable so was wondering if there is anything l can do to keep using it safely. margie05 - 2021-10-07 18:03:00 |
| not really, only thing you can easily do is keep using it accepting the slightly elevated (and ever increasing) risk of something going wrong down the track... They can sometimes be converted to windows or linux but that is not a super simple task... In my opinion this end of support policy is a significant disadvantage of owning a chromebook - at least windows gives you 10 years Edited by king1 at 6:27 pm, Thu 7 Oct king1 - 2021-10-07 18:26:00 |
| Yes, just use it. lythande1 - 2021-10-08 08:07:00 |
| There is a very good chance that the operating system could be changed to Linux, and there are quite a few types which are very easy to use. What model Chromebook please? tygertung - 2021-10-08 08:22:00 |
| I am finding that Linux Mint is very much better than Ubuntu. trade4us2 - 2021-10-08 08:31:00 |
| Linux mint can be very nice, Ubuntu can be too, but it depends on which desktop environment of Ubuntu one is using. tygertung - 2021-10-08 08:35:00 |
| It's an Acer C730 thanks. margie05 - 2021-10-08 09:08:00 |
| Well it can be done, I recently converted my sons Acer C730 to windows... It is not simple as I said, they also have serious hardware limitations ie 16GB storage which is a significant constraint, the audio drivers windows wants to install automatically keeps breaking the sound... If you're not techy minded I wouldn't recommend it. Just use it as is for as long as you feel comfortable... Edited by king1 at 9:45 am, Fri 8 Oct king1 - 2021-10-08 09:39:00 |
