Google Chromecast crashes when I lock my phone

#Post

Hello. I'm not sure I am posting in the right category but... When I Chromecast to my t.v the app crashes when I lock my phone. I have reset the Chromecast, looked all over Google and settings in my phone plus Google home settings and can not figure out how to fix it. Has anyone had this issue and how do you fix it. It's YouTube I have been trying to watch and my phone is a Huawei p10. Thank you.

Firstly, has this only just started happening - was it working fine before ?

What app are you referring to ? More precisely - what app are you casting from ? It's possible to cast from many different apps to a Chromecast.

And what type of phone ? And if Android/Apple what version of the operating system ? (Android 6-7-8-9-10 etc ? for example)

So you're using the youtube app ? Or are you getting youtube on chrome on the phone and casting from that ?

So instead of using the Youtube app try going to Youtube from the browser on the phone, (I'm assuming it has google chrome browser ?), and then casting from that instead.

And what do you mean by the "app crashes"?

Do you mean the Youtube broadcast on the TV fails? If so, how does it manifest itself?

If you mean the app on the phone, how do you know if the phone is locked?

How the Chromecast dongle works is that you have a app on your phone and you tell the app to tell the Chromecast dongle to fetch a streaming service such as Youtube from your home WiFi network. Once the broadcast is working, it doesn't matter what is happening on your phone. You could put your phone through the Insinkerator and the broadcast will continue.

That isn't true, I had the same issue on my Samsung phone when it decided to put the YouTube phone app to sleep when the screen turned off. Fix was easy, just exclude the YouTube app on the phone from entering deep sleep (as Samsung term, probably called something different on a Huawei)

If the Chromecast is using your phone as the internet connection then you'll have these issues, connect the Chromecast to your home Wi-Fi instead.

Yes it is:
* if the phone app is doing its job, and,
* if the Chromecast dongle is taking its feed from your WiFi network, that is, directly from your router rather than being relayed from your phone.

Easy to test.
Not at home till later, (got a couple of CC's), but simple really. Cast something then force stop the CC app. Note result.

The issues is that for whatever reason the phone app is not doing it's job

Tested. Opened Youtube Android app. Cast a Youtube video to Tv. Force close app. Video keeps playing on Tv. As someone stated above:

"Once the broadcast is working, it doesn't matter what is happening on your phone. You could put your phone through the Insinkerator and the broadcast will continue."

So I can't see how the phone app is the problem ?
