have been given a J5 Samsung Galaxy ,when i turn it on there is a photo of the previous owners family .how do i delete it ? I can swipe to the Home screen no problem and that screen is from the Wall paper selection ,but that photo of his Family is not in the gallery or any where i can see ,i How do i remove delete the 'open phone photo ?" thanks

There are two places you can set up wallpaper on the phone the home screen and the lock screen. I'd guess you're seeing the family photo on the lock screen.

Long press on any blank part of the home screen and find 'wallpaper' then choose one and 'set as' lock screen.

Google says:

1 Open the Gallery app.
2 Select the image or video you would like to set as the wallpaper. ...
3 Tap the More options icon.
4 Tap "Set as wallpaper".
5 Choose whether you want to set the image as the wallpaper for your "Home screen", "Lock screen" or both your "Home and lock screen
