Would your tax number work?
How about your marriage and or divorce certificate?
Any professional people? Lawyer, Accountant, Doctor, Dentist, school teacher, policeman...
Perhaps you should apply for a passport? You’ll need someone with a passport to ID your photo.
(The banks are wanting so much more information these days because of the new money laundering laws.)

After that you'll be asked to validate the source of your money, for example the documentation from your inheritance, the sale of your last house, your share purchases and sales, where the money for that bitcoin came from. And if you have borrowed that money from your parents, where did they get it from...

Change banks?
My son didn't have a license when he bought my house. Didn't have that ID card either, just Birth Cert

Yes, photo ID is needed a lot now and it will be the same in the future.
It would be worth while getting a passport, even if you don’t intend to travel.

Enjoy your new home. It’s worth all the angst and effort. Exciting times for you and your family.

It is not the institutions, they are simply complying with their statutory obligations.

Yes. That’s why I suggested getting a passport, easier than a drivers license and no fear of failing!

Have a look at this... https://www.fma.govt.nz/assets/Guidance/AML-CFT-identity-ver
ification-code-of-practice-2013.pdf

Your lawyer (who also needs to verify your identity) should be able to help you.

Note that the legislation does not require any specific form of ID, rather the verifying identity must be satisfied of your id. Some organisations don't understand that if you cannot satisfy the default requirements then they must find another way. They should not just throw their hands in the air and say "no, sorry, not enough info".

Having an 18 plus card(now known as Kiwi Access card) is an alternative to a drivers license or passport so why is it not being accepted as a valid form of I.D?

The cards are issued by Hospitality New Zealand, a private organisation of hotel owners which lobby Government to benefit their own interests. Their cards will never match the weight of identity documents issued by government departments.

Personally, I find that a pretty sad reason to change a long term company.
Drivers licence isn't the only ID that they will accept, it's just the most common to ask for being a govt issued document with photo ID
Which is my point, any "govt issued document with photo ID" is acceptable for legal ID.
Yes even Spark will accept it.

A current firearms licence is suitable photo ID. That is more acceptable than a drivers licence, as some drivers licences are not issued directly by a government department, but an agency.

One of our local solicitors got me to sign a affidavit, verifying the photo I witnessed was of someone I had known for 20 years. Chap's passport had expired and he never reapplied for his driver's licence after a DIC conviction some years earlier, and was no longer driving due to his age and health.

Spark have not changed. I was customer in BC (before child) times. When my partner and I separated 10 years ago and I went to have the phone changed into my name they refused. I had authority on the account and basically paid it each month. But no, I had not been a customer with them in recent years so that was that. Ended up going with my internet company in the end.

No, that's only for Real Me and then only for govt agencies, the anti-money laundering rules financial institutions and lawyers are required to follow are different.

Ask your lawyer if they can confirm your ID by electronic means but you need proof of ID and proof of address so a bank statement less than 12 months old wth your physical address on it, anything from IRD or utility company is acceptable otherwise you’ll need someone to complete a declaration of identity including a photo and confirmation of how long they’ve known you. I’m surprised that you’re only just being asked to provide this though if settlement is this week.

That has replaced the 18+ card.
