He was a brilliant man. I will get out my zx81 tomorrow in remembrance. I have the very advanced model with a huge 16K of memory.

I had a flash Sinclair Spectrum. Amazing colour for the day.

And the inevitable 'RAMpak wobble' crash.
I've still got several ZX81s and Spectrums tucked away, complete with ZX printer and Microdrive upgrade for the Spectrums.

Back in the early 80s, I was 14, doing paper runs and saving up to buy a motorbike when I turned 15. Had the money in my bank account and my uncle's XL125 lined up.

Was also into Space Invaders & other arcade games so when I first saw a Sinclair ZX Spectrum in real life, I knew it had to be mine.

Real sliding doors moment. I brought the computer, ended up being the first one in my large extended blue collar family to go to university and got a degree in Com Sci and a career in IT that has allowed me a good life.

I always wonder how different my life would have been of I had brought the motorbike instead?

Retrospectively seeing pivotal moments in our lives is fascinating.

I remember my son's ZX81 wouldn't load and had to take into Takapuna Mall techy circa 1984. Cost $140 to repair back then, a fortune.

Sinclair Vehicles went into receivership. Concept may have been good but the reality wasn't.
