Craft from the 70s - liquid embroidery tubes

1 | Hi all - when I was a kid I used tubes of fabric paint with ball point tips, and the skill was called liquid embroidery. When I put those words into trade me I don't get much of a result, but more results when I try for fabric paint. I need the ball point option, because since I had my accident I can't see to use a brush any longer - I need the "feel" of the ball point on the fabric. Do you know if they call this craft something else now, that I can search for and get better results? sumstyle - 2021-09-15 08:38:00 |
2 | I have the feeling that the brand name of these tubes ended in xxxxtex, or xxxex. Might pay to search on an art supplies website such as Gordon Harris to get the brand name then do a search on Google to find NZ stockists. shanreagh - 2021-09-15 08:57:00 |

5 | They are called fabric paint pens and you can get them on here (search in crafts) or from the big craft & fabric retailers wildwooddesign - 2021-09-15 15:08:00 |
6 | I had them in the 70's and they were Trichem. All the nieces and nephews got pillowcases for Christmas with a picture and their name on them. ffloss - 2021-09-15 16:02:00 |

You are right, I remember using them, they were very good and didn't come off in the wash. spidermurti - 2021-09-16 10:29:00 |
9 | Thank you everyone! I can see that the paints on the Trichem website match my memories. Looking back over time, I can't imagine how Mum managed to pay for these for me as we had to live very frugally. More stuff that I had taken for granted, as a child. sumstyle - 2021-09-16 10:38:00 |

I think we were given a whole bunch of partly used ones from someone. My memories are that they weren't new tubes. supersapper - 2021-09-16 22:17:00 |
12 | There were two brands, trichem and another which I cannot remember. But I also got some from my local sewing machine/habadashery shop. Used the black for naming kids clothes. Cheaper than labels. I would think there is still some sort of liquid embroidery items available in retailers. I no longer have mine, but with grandkids would be handy. Decorated the kids santa sacks, pillowcases etc. Plenty of transfers then, but also used wax transfer pencil on simple colouring in pictures, like smurfs, which they were into, and nursery rhyme characters. Tshirts were done with applique instead. figjam000 - 2021-09-17 11:30:00 |
