Hi all, Hope you are all fairing well,
I am after suggestions on a decent free Antivirus that provides basic protection and won't ask for money every 10 seconds, Or conversely what is a good value for money paid antivirus, I have tried AVG, Avast, PC protect, All want money all the time, P.I.T.A., Cheers.

The inbuilt Windows Defender is fine.

Paid; Eset - it's the best

I use AVG for almost 10 years now without any issues, I'm trying Avast on my new laptop since it's linked with Viber. cheers

You might want to consider a change...
AVG was always a handbrake on a PC, not the nicest program at all.
Avast was a much better program for a long while but now it is really just a marketing machine with constant upsells (by fear mongering) to some other piece of useless rubbish software most people just don't need...

AVG and Avast are now one and the same, from what I can gather the actual AV software is the same with different branding.

and then there is this...

If you don't mind paying use Eset, otherwise you're probably better off with the built in Windows Defender

You should avoid reading too much into conspiracy theories. If they sell data, what's the worst thing that could happen to you? are you willing to pay 10 years of membership on Norton and such? I've been using it for a decade, nothing much has happened. Them selling your data or information, you should be scared if you have something to hide.. do you have one?

Not a conspiracy at all, simply a well documented fact - up to you though, you've been warned. Worst thing that can happen is probably identity theft...
