Monthly power bills

#Post

What is the average monthly bill for a two person household using all electric appliances and heating? I know it will vary depending on appliances used, but I'm just after a ballpark figure.

$300 to $600 with the heating if it keeps you warm

in northland, probably $100-150 range.
big thing is how many people are home all day, what heating is used etc.

Mid winter we're paying about $300 for 2 people, 3brm house. We have 2 heatpumps that are on more than 50% of the day, and a dehumidifier running 24/7. Plus the usual showers, washing, drying. Summer, maybe $180?

In Southland four bedroom home at the moment $550 average, Less in the summer

Id say double summer account just with a heater and extra heating with the hot water cylinder. $150 summer $300 winter. $1000 if you have the whole house warm 24 hours.

Last month's electricity bill for the two of us was $233. Two bedrooms, one heat pump, assorted appliances. Summer $159. We are with Contact. We don't have gas.

100-200 for a 5 bedroom mansion in Christchurch using heat pumps and resistance heaters in bedrooms for two adults two children. Our last one was $211 which is very unusual. One before that was $172.

We've had heat pump on overnight (20) lately, turned off about 10, back on 4pm.
Power bills $240. However we do pay a set amount all year, build up the credit over summer and use it up over winter.
The overnight thing isn't all winter, just the coldest parts.
We had changed to powershop this year, before power bills were a horrendous $400.

The kids live next door, family of four, gas is $60, power is $225, $90 of that is line charge. They run a 20kw ducted heat pump system 24/7. Have a baby so dryer and washing machine non stop. Gas hot water and cooking.

You live in a mansion? Seems an unusual way to describe your home - is it an actual historical house that's called "Xxxx Mansion"? Do tell!

No, it is just because it is real massive, maybe 180 or 200 m2, which I call it a mansion.

Last year there was just the two of us, power bills ranged from $220 to $300 per month.
This year there are six in the house and our power is $320 to $420

You have to be in the Entrust area (Auckland) to qualify.

Family of four - last one (using the heater) $129. When I lived alone in the
late '90s I was miffed if my bill was over $35!!

Just me and the rusty dog, gas hot water and hob. About $70 in the summer and the last one was $123. I do use the heat pump over the colder months. It will be higher this month as I have been and will be home more during the day. I am with Power Shop but still get the Top Energy $200 annual credit.

$400 paid last night. Could reduce it by $52 for prompt payment rebate but take that amount as AirNZ$. That includes power and gas for 4 adults 300sqmtr two storey house. New Rinnai Evolve fire downstairs plus air conditioning heat pump. Around $270 during summer. Quite happy with that as always warm in winter and cool in summer.

My power per month is $75-85 including water pump and fence unit and that's basically the same all year round, water heating is by a Marshall heater, house heating is wood fired, gas hob and oven.
So it can vary from stuff all to heaps depending on the situation.

Ours is averaging about $350 a month this winter. Three people, 200 sq/m, one heat pump plus occasional use of oil column heaters in bedrooms. Seems really high to me. House needs more insulation and I'd like to look at double glazing retro fitting - hopefully that would help.

Yes that seems very high. You can usually put more insulation in the roof yourself quite easily and cheaply.

Do you leave your heatpump on all the time, or just when you are using the area?

I suspect the meter or transformer down the road is faulty. I have a heater on in one room only for a couple of hours at night. I saw in Australia on tv once where there power was $1000 and when the lines were upgraded out there gate if was only a couple of hundred. The numbers tick over on the meter and the cents per kw matches.

About 150 - 200. 2 adults, 2 brm house, heatpumps, water pump x2, spa pool, dryer.

man, some of these power bills are low!

2 adults, 2 kids, heatpump running, 270sqm home. ours hovers around $500 a month in winter. We do have alot of appliances, including 2 fridge/freezers (I heard these were the worst for power consumption), and a 400l fish tank that runs 24/7 though....

We are just on 300 a month in Auckland for a family of two adults and two young children / babies.... so lots of baths and warm washes and drier use. 330sqm modern house with ducted heat pumps. Its usually about 260 in summer with a fair bit of air con use and about 200 in shoulder seasons of late spring and early autumn where heating/cooling is near zilch.

$160-$180 a month with wood fire heating and occasional heatpunp. I pay weekly with Contact and found my oven was the biggest guzzler on the power so now use the Airfryer most of the time.
