Validating live.com account

#Post
1

Made grave mistake of buying Office365 and installed all OK. Then after 12 weeks or so, it required validation which required a live.com account. Tried setting up new live.com account, passed the emailed pin test but then faced with a series of unrecognisable 'things' (half a chicken etc) and an instruaction to rotate it into the upright position. After 10 failed attempts at that, was presented with a voiced string of 5 digits which then entered correctly to receive "incorrect, try again".

Wtf is going on with this outfit? I've legitimately bought a 6-user family pack from a well known NZ company yet am now unable to use it with these unsurmountable blocks. Has anyone else experienced this cr*p?

It will be wanting to activate I imagine...

You don't need to set up a new live.com account, you WILL need to use the account you originally used to buy/setup office 365 in the first place...

K. I bought it via Pricespy and a NZ company, they provided a download link for the file Officesetup.exe and during that install was never asked to set up a live.com account.

did you get a product key with it? Usually comes in an email or on a card in the office 365 box...
These days the office key is always stored in and attached to a Microsoft account.

The verifying your identity is a BIG thing these days, Sounds like you have struggled with the 'recaptcha' part of it (The am I a human test)...

This is all very normal and prevents automated bots and scripts from auto generating accounts for spamming and other nefarious uses...

All I can suggest is to slow down and pay attention, you cannot create the account without it. Maybe get someone else sitting beside you to double check as you go...

Don't forget the 64 symbol case sensitive password.

Identity was verified by emailed code.

Yep, got the product key with it (entered at install all OK).

Capcha been tried by four educated adults, not one can pass it! What is the correct 'upright' position for a shrimp? It's actually all BS and whilst I understand the need to stop piracy, this is one to many.

with regard to the recaptcha images etc there is usually a refresh button available, which allows you to choose a different picture/text etc
You can usually refresh as often as you like so i tend to just keep refreshing until I find one that's easy to read

it's nothing to do with piracy - everything to do with preventing bots creating accounts, spamming and phishing.
Having said that I suppose the online activation and account requirement makes it more difficult and dropping those requirements would be a recipe for rampant piracy as it used to be...

Consider it an intelligence test.
Maybe your own ever so helpful advise that you gave to someone here a while back applies.

Words to the effect of "If you are too stupid to use it, take it back"
