Best fabric for Coat Lining?

#Post
1

Can anyone suggest a good lining fabric that looks good (for when you see it) for a wool cot please? I know satin is used but it is it durable? Anything I have used satin for seem to not last long. Hoping someone has a good suggestion please?

I buy linings from Hawes & Freer https://www.hawesandfreer.co.nz/
Nice fabric and so far going strong in a 10yr old wool coat, used DIL jacket skirt and dress thats 5 yrs old.
Nice hand too

I think satin is the best but not all satins are made equal. I would buy the best quality you can ie heavier from a specialised fabric shop.

What's happened to taffeta? Although satin would be ideal.

For a winter coat I used a remnant I found of heavy weight silky satin. It added a level of warmth that ordinary satin lining didn't. For a child's coat I used plaid flannelette or a favourite theme, such as [back in the day - star trek], or these days Paw patrol etc, sometimes a quilting fabric once washed will do the trick. For summer or lightweight coats/jackets I use satin or taffeta/nylon lining. Some good deals on TM.

Lining in a wool coat makes it a lot easier to put on and take off, why dont you line the inside fronts with something amazing (satin) and line the rest with a plain colour matching lining?. I dont think any lining would wear out quickly in a coat, ( like a mans work suit jacket) and its easy to replace anyway.
