#Post

or can I use an older version I have previously paid for?

Also, I'd be interested to hear your views on comparison?

Ummm, why not just uninstall it?
You don't have to keep it on your computer. It's just MS trying to get you hooked on it, and then to buy it.
Yes to Libre Office. Good product and it's free.

It'll be a 'trial' version which is installed on your computer. Just go to control panel/programs and features, find Office, Right Click it over time and tool get a menu. Choose uninstall with your LEFT click.

Or just ignore it and just don't use it.

Grrrt

"Right Click it over time and tool get a menu. Choose uninstall with your LEFT click."

Is supposed to say:

"Right Click it one time and you'll get a menu. Choose uninstall with your LEFT click"

Bloody autocorrect !

Oh. That's unfortunate. You should have asked here FIRST.

I take it this means you now have the new computer up and running? How did that happen?

No it isn't a requirement to buy a subscription.
There should be no reason you can't keep using an older version of Office if it is a retail version and it is still compatible with your PC/version of Windows.

It is good question, if you don't want to subscribe to office 365 you can buy
Office Home and Business 2019 for a one off cost of $439 incl g.s.t
or Office Home and Student 2019 for $239 incl. g.s.t If you are constantly upgrading your computer you may be better off with a subscription.

Instead of spending all that money, and that's a LOT, why not just install Libre Office for FREE ? Unless you are a business user with very very strict requirements from an office program, such that you need Microsoft Office there is no need to buy it all. Libre office is easily as good and as versatile and intercompatible also. And FREE.

And it is OPEN SOURCE, same as Linux. If you are cool with open source software you can change to Libre Office. If you prefer closed source, go with a proprietary office suite.

Once upon a long time ago I heard about Open Office, it was an open source office suite (this was the XP days). I thought well if going to an open source office suite, maybe I should try a whole open source OS! I looked into it and Ubuntu was the most popular at the time (This was about 2007). I got it going and haven't looked back. It wasn't quite as easy to get everything working as it is now, but not too much problem. True story.

But Libre Office might suit you. But if you have a previous version you have paid for, perhaps you might like to use that?

Yeah it's unfortunate that they paid for the new version.

Wait, so the OP pulled out a credit card and paid for Office 365 subscription but didn't want it?

Uninstalling the software won't stop the Office365 subscription, but depending on when they paid for it, I would talk to the credit card company or Microsoft NZ and ensure they either get a refund or at least cancel the subscription.

I used to recommend LibreOffice/Open Office to people for home use, but many Microsoft licenses allow use of the work license on multiple PC's including home use.

That and I tend to use Google office suite like Sheets & Docs; has some really nice features that are ahead of Microsoft Office and free of course.

I agree that it is expensive software that I wouldn't buy myself, I was saying you didn't have to buy Microsoft Office as a subscription you could buy the new version as a digital download. I don't see Libre office as any worse than MS office it is just most people don't know about freeware software.

Yeah definitely cancel your subscription OP, MS don't know you have uninstalled it, just that you signed up, and as long as your credit card doesn't expire they'll take your money every year.

It's not really freeware, more free and open source. There is a pretty distinct difference.
