i had a dumb TV hooked up to freeview decoder connected to TV ans satellite dish. I also had external hard drive to record programs. Decided to upgrade to new Samsung but lm being told by retailer that smart TV with freeview functionality is fine for me but that external hard drive will only work with UHF aerial but not dish ,,, is that right given i can record with freeview box to ext hd with dish but retailer says built in freeview with smart TV and dish isnt going to allow recording to ext hd ... anyone in Northland who can advise

Just don't use the TV's freeview, use the freeview satbox decoder you've always been using and just hook it up to your tv via hdmi or rca's. Hopefully the TV and satbox will have atleast one of them, and record tv exactly the same as you were before with the old TV. If your decoder doesn't have hdmi you could loose a little picture quality but at least it'll be working.

Freeview satellite is low quality, i.e., low bitrate and over compressed, standard definition only so will look quite poor on the Samsung. I would get decent internet and use a Vodafone TV Gen 2 box instead. Not sure of kerikeri was part of fibre rollout.
