Look at email accounts from many years ago

#Post

I am with extra, i.e. ingas@xtra.co.nz. Howewver many years ago, I had an account which was called ingasteve18@gmail.com. and other ones too. How can I connect to any off the earlier accounts, or any other earlier accounts I may have had? Would they all still be on my computer or do I need to set something up? Mmmh. I do not know where to start with this? Any help please? Many thanks.

Sorry, I should have mentioned in the first message that these are all my accounts, just earlier ones! I am not hacking! Wouldn't know how to anyhow and wouldn't want to waste my time. Cheers.

well it really depends on how you checked the email back then as to whether they will be somewhere on your computer or sitting on an email server somewhere.

The gmail account as it stands can be accessed online at https://www.gmail.com but you will need to know the password for the account or at least be able to confirm the account recovery requests ie security questions, recovery codes etc

Xtra mail servers only host @xtra.co.nz mailboxes. Your gmail account is hosted by gmail. It's nothing to do with xtra. You might have had a mail program on your computer /device that checked each account. But you (nor anyone else) have never accessed their gmail through xtra.

If you use an email client rather than webmail you can(Probably) set that up to download from Gmail also. Otherwise, go to gmail.com

just because you setup an email account with some provider at some time does not mean it'll be 'on your computer' at all.

IF you have setup access to that account(s) in say Ms Outlook, Thunderbird, Windows Live mail, whatever on the computer at some time so that you could access the mail then - yeah if you have the same computer then that'll be 'on your computer' - otherwise No it wont. You'll be able to access those accounts tho IF you still have the login password. Just goto the relevant account holders webpage and log in .

Hi, yes, look at that - I still have the password in my clever book. Haven't tried it yet but sounds like it should work. And I guesss the same goes with any other emails I set up donkey years ago - I still have the password and login etc for those too in my clever book. Wow, that is wonderful as I am looking for a rather important document and it might just be in one of those emails before I went with xtra. Well, I just hope. Still got my 2 old computers 2 here in case. One computer I had thrown out though then. Such a naive little twit I am sometimes. One computer is a Linux and the other one has Thunderbird, I think. I am on the right track.

For example, I just go into www.gmail. com and sign in and then there must be my emails somewhere on that site? It is so simple, really. I think I will manage from here on. If not, I will ask again, of course.

Thank you for your help. Tremendous. Thank heavens it is warrmer tonight. Cheers, Inga
A great and sunny weekend for everyone.

google had a big clean up of unused/idle gmail accounts, so you might be out of luck.

Wow, that's backwards! You went from the awesome gmail to xtra?!And it's xtra not extra.
So, as you have it already, just start using it again. Xtra is dead anyway...it got sold on. And didn't improve either.

OP, suggestion - remove your email address in your original posting. Spammers would love to get those and flood you with the kind offers for Bitcoin, foreign brides and viagra!! Secondly, TM frown upon email address being disclosed in that way. The post is too old now for you to remove it yourself so you'll either have to go through their horrid 'contact us' saga, or maybe get someone here to report it and then they'll remove them quick enough,
