Isn't it the UN that presses on governments to import more migrants (ie migration is a human right)? Perhaps if we hadn't imported so many foreign bods we would have more houses available?

Regardless of the amount of migrants that was agreed to, the government/s failed to ensure there would be enough houses, either owners or rentals available at an affordable price, and as stated have turned "the home" into a quick turn around investment game. Perhaps the UN has some responsibility in that also however they are not governing the country. Yes is not a compulsory word.

Somewhat true - they do, but I suspect we'd have done so anyway - successive governments of both colours have promoted immigration as a way of growing the economy.

Or a way of governments to increase taxation at national and local body level to support minority groups from overseas. At the expense of the funding new zealanders the tax money was supposed to support. Policy driven bynthe United Nations.

Its a crazy world.

So no mention of how bad and incompetent Government and councils have caused the problem? Only those mysterious speculators again.

The problem is entirely the fault of government, past and present.

Yes as usual, the media focuses on one aspect and doesn't read the actual report which starts off its opening Summary with:

"There is a persistent lack of affordable housing, and consecutive Governments have failed to ensure that the housing market meets the needs of the entire population, particularly those who have low incomes."

Although does also note:

"Housing speculation needs to be addressed by restoring fairness in the housing market through adequate taxation and further improving the protection of tenants."

"UN’s former Special Rapporteur on adequate housing"

crikey! did they actually use their brain and do any critical thinking when they wrote that or did they just google the latest biased trash from stuff change the order of some of the words and travel onwards on the gravy train?
