These big chunky blankets are a nightmare to wash I am told ...they stretch out of shape .They do look tempting to knit though .
I knit a lot of shawls and wraps now rather than blankets due to their weight but always knit with wool .

It would have to be acrylic to be affordable, and for this knitaholic, that makes it not worth the energy.

Our local long gone wool shop had a huge specially commissioned set of needles on the wall along with an equally vast bit of plain knitting. How the two ladies managed that I have no idea, but it must have been an interesting - and exhausting exercise.

Must say I find the opposite texture in knitting - fine, rather than outrageous - far more attractive, if a much slower endeavour. But then, these days, for me it is all about the process and the incredible yarns we can find, that make the craft so comforting. And addictive.

The zen of the needles, an effective cure for life's little (and not so little) challenges... ????

Yes agree Oh Hunnihunni ...very relaxing and meditating the click clacking of our the needles , esp using interesting wool mixes .
I have just finished the Moraine Shawl for my mothers 82nd birthday complete with tassels .
She is loving it , wearing around her shoulders while sitting in her fancy chair at her new abode ...Rest Home.

Having been instructed to live the quiet life until my body and the meds work, my needles and a massive jigsaw puzzle have kept me sane. The shawl is reaching the floor, and the puzzle is finished and I still have two weeks to go before they reassess, so I suspect the shawl will be a monster, and the jigsaw collection will get bigger!

There is no guarantee on the sanity thing though...

Lovely to do the actual knitting, but when it's done it is a magnet for ALL hair, lint, bits of food, dust - you name it. And it pills like hell, especially acrylic. As someone else pointed out, it's also a nightmare to wash. I'm speaking from painful experience: Made a kind of long carpet runner from 6 strands of soft acrylic yarn. I very much enjoyed the knitting and the carpet was lovely for a little while. Now it's pretty gross. No amount of washing or beating got it even clean-ish. So I put it into one of these bags you suck the air out with a vacuum cleaner and stuck it in the back of my wardrobe. I mean - you can't even give it away ????It's a nice idea and looks good for a minute, but my advice is - stay clear.
