You can easily get anything, new or used
Friendly, cosmopolitan people

Really. having moved out of Akld twice, yes it sure is.
Example, look on Power company site, enter Akld address, then somewhere else...different rates, cheaper in Akld.
Rates, people I know, Waikato, Hawkes Bay, Canterbury all pay $3000+ in rates for houses worth $600000K or less. So pays $1600 for his $780K house in Akld.
Food: Not supermarkets - butchers, chicken, veg shops, all far cheaper.
Blue Cod $15 a kg in Henderson. Comes from Southland where it's $32kg.
Cherries, used to buy in Glen Eden at $8kg, from hawkes Bay growers.
Capsicums veg shop on Whenuapa1 rd, 20c each...they grew them.

But they grow the stuff in other areas too, so why so damn expensive? Competition is my conclusion.

$1600 for rates in Auckland is only a dream unless you are a pensioner and get the $600 subsidy for wasting your savings

It seems that Wellington is also lined up for a "planning studio" (whatever that is) so you don't miss out. And let's face it, Wellington can boast Moore Wilson. We'd be truly the best city if we had a Moor Wilson and a great rail system to get us there easily, like you have from Kapiti. Farro Fresh is a pale imitation of the glorious Moore Wilson.

I was in Moore Wilsons are the weekend, excellent shop!

From what I can google..."At the Planning Studio, customers will be able to learn about customized small space solutions, browse a curated selection of popular IKEA items, and order products for home delivery. Additionally, IKEA sales design experts will be available to work with individuals on custom storage and kitchen solutions."

So they won't be serving IKEAS famous Swedish meatballs....

they must have read the "the most liveable city in the world" pitch and decided to finally move in. Pity the covid will be out and people won't be stuck at home with their DIY projects. They missed the window of opportunity here...

Well, Auckland has the highest rates in NZ and the most over-paid employees and mayor, so we should expect to be the best.

It's what my son, IN AUCKLAND, pays for his house rates.
Not all of Auckland is Remuera you know.

Yes if NZ or even the world needed an enema, then Auckland would be the BEST CITY to stick it in !!

Yep, such a shit hole that majority of new entrants into the country continue to want to live/work/stay here. Believe me, majority of us born and bred here WISH everyone thought the same as you, so they all buggered off to other parts of NZ and let us go back to how Auckland USED to be. In saying that, it is still THE best place to live, imo, even though I'm not rich lol.

Lets cut off the power supplied from the South island and the Water from the Waikato that Auckland relies on and see how long they survive.

Not true. $1400 here for a 2 bedroom unit on the North Shore in Auckland with no subsidy.
PS you're comment about pensioners is rude.

Must be a cheap as unit. That's a cheap rate bill. Out West we're paying $2,200.... big section though, in a nice area.

How does this “highest rates” myth continue?
Do people not understand population density?
