Firefox's latest update sucks

#Post
1

They've gone and changed the look of the interface, don't like it but I can live with it (for now).
What I really don't like is Google search is now in the address bar.
If I type a search in the usual box in the middle of the home page, it jumps up to the address bar.
I can't find any way to turn this off.
If I go to Settings / Search - the only option is "Use address bar for search and navigation" and there's no way to uncheck it.
It's not an option. Obviously Firefox/Google wants everyone to use the address bar to search and tough shit if you don't like it.

Running 89 and not doing that. Look has changed with different buttons/menu etc.but nothing to complain about.

They have changed it...but

For now though, Firefox users may make the following configuration changes to get the old address bar back:

Load about:config in the browser's address bar.
Confirm that you will be careful.
Search for the following preferences and set them all to FALSE.

browser.urlbar.openViewOnFocus-

browser.urlbar.update1
browser.urlbar.update1.interve-
ntions
browser.urlbar.update1.searchT-
ips
browser.urlbar.update1.view.st-
ripHttps..

Restart the Firefox web browser.

To just change the behaviour of the Google search box on the new tab page it's:

about:config

Then search for:

handoffToAwesomebar

and change the setting to false.

In about:config toggle `browser.proton.enabled` to false it will revert back to the old Photon style.

Thank you to everyone who has posted.
Until this update, FF has been playing nicely. Now it seems they are being influenced by Google and its ideas of web domination.

Bring back Netscape Navigator?

I notice the spacing between each of my 'bookmarks' has increased by quite a few mm. Looks weird now.
Can I close up the gap a tad?
TIA.

I don't see the problem with the new behaviour - it is how every other browser works and if you have a problem with using Google you can still set your search provider to something else.

Was a bit of job to get to where I could change this setting, but it works.

Thanks for the info.

Yes, this annoys me the most. Previously my bookmarks were a nice fit just filling the page. Now its a decent half page scroll to see them all. I haven't looked for a solution yet. There probably is one though. I will when I get a chance.

Every change people complain. You can customise it...as has been explained above...and of course the themes and extensions start to come out, so you can have your own look if you want.

So has Mozilla been acquired by Google? I always saw it as an independent developer group. When will Thunderbird get turned into that awful shite app called 'Backlook'?

I don't have every other browser. I have Firefox because it works and I like the way it does so.
I don't have a problem with them updating things, but there should be an option given.
Give me a pop-up saying "Firefox is about to change the layout of the user interface. This is what the new interface will look like, and how it will operate. If you want this, click yes, if you want to stay with how it's currently configured click no".
When I want to search for something, I want to type in the Google search panel in the middle of the blank page as I have always done.
Fortunately I can still do this, as shown by those who have responded here with the 'how to get your page back to the way it used to be'.
I don't have a problem with Google either, that is my preferred search engine. I just want it to be in the same place, in the middle of the page when I open a new tab. It was there, but when I started to type in it, the text relocated itself to the address bar. Not what I wanted.

Sure but you haven't said why you want it to behave that way.

FF is the only browser that screws up the orientation when printing PDF documents.
All other docs etc print correctly, just the PDF's are off
Every other browser gets it right

I very much prefer to keep all the tools on top of the browser including search.
It's were every other webpage has their search box's as well (top of page)

I had Firefox until a few graphics heavy web pages like Facebook started crashing. Found out that it was a memory problem. Changed to Google Chrome which uses less memory than Firefox (and Microsoft Edge). Have no problems now as long as I don't have too many tabs or windows open at once.

Would that even work now that most sites require TLS 1.2?
