I had copied a family photo on to my computer and someone put a text box and typed names on the photo. Can I remove the text box and writing off the photo please?

would very much depend on how it was done, probably best to check with whoever did this. Some graphics programs work by stacking layers to create the image, IF done this it MAY be possible to undo or extract it. Most likely though it would be a no and simpler to copy the photo to computer again...

If the text box is at the bottom of the photo you could crop it off.

Rule no. 1 when working with photos. Never work with the original, always work with a copy.

Do you know what program was used to alter the photo? What file type is it? If you can open it in the program used to add the text box you would have more chance of reverting to the original. Have you searched for the original on your computer? It might still be there, especially if the altered file was saved as a different file type.

If you are desperate it is usually possible to remove text etc with an hour or so of work with an image editor. Unfortunately my favourite editor doesn't work any more.

Think back to where you copied it from. Did it already have the text box? If you got it from email then search for the original email and you'll have the unedited copy attached. If you got it from USB stick then look for the unedited copy.

If the photo already had the text box, then ask the sender if they have an unedited copy, or where did they get it from.

If the answer is "they got it from the internet" then use a google advanced image search, where you paste or upload your copy of the photo and then google locates similar photos on the internet.
