Can't see any reason to use that and not just open another gmail account. I must have a dozen of them. While you might THINK you won't need an email address again it is surprising just how many times you do need to refer back to an email address you thought you would never need again.

useful to know what are some of the legitimate uses for this are? By its nature it kinda implies hiding something... I used one years ago to sign up to an anonymous VPN...

would journalists in dodgy countries maybe use this for filing reports perhaps?

One use case I can see for it would be if you were communicating with some scammers.

gmails ability to example@gmail.com = e.xample@gmail.com = ex.ample@gmail.com = e.x.a.m.p.l.e@gmail.com is enough variation for me, especially if with a "sent to" rule moving it to a label.

Don't forget example@gmail.com = example+insert anything here@gmail.com also. So you can have a single email address, but add whatever you like after a "+" gmail ignores anything after a plus, but websites will read it as a separate address. It's a great way to have multiple accounts somewhere when normally a website wouldn't allow it. All email will come in to the same place.

It's a miracle you're able to use the internet succesfully.
