It's irrelevant. Its very unlikely that the number you're seeing is the real number the scam call is coming from.

As for

I think Australia has a 3 digit area/district code, and 41 is Brisbane (in AU it would be 041).

That’s allocated to an Australian mobile number

I had the robo caller from spark tell me to press 1. I did and then it replayed the same message so I pressed 1 again. After the third time it just disconnected. Not a very good scam.

But it's a lot of fun answering them and leading them round in circles - free entertainment.

just to add another one I got a mail from hotmail so i called the naigbour because it only said to contact em urgently via mail. What happened is she fell for a scam that her hotmail was no longer and she needed to change passwords to this scammer site who looked legit. So once the scammers got her mail they sent these emails to bait others.

Well I apply logic like Why would you email me to tell me its urgent but not tell me what it is about makes no sense as it is not like a email has limmited txt like a sms.

Not so much fun if they turn up on your doorstep.
You have no idea who they are, where they are, who their associates are and what they might do if you annoy them enough.

I am still waiting for the army of a Liberian General to turn up. He said they would come here and kill me after a long email 'exchange'. I wish they would hurry up. It is cold waiting by the gate.

To amazone selling luise rossmann has explained why he doesn't sell on amazone any longer it's not a scam but almost I would call it borderline amazone scamming its sellers like him. You definitely won't get rich quick unless you are the scammer.

Here is the email i got i will put it in (..) and explain after why and how i did not reply as it maybe not obvious to anyone else. This mail account was hacked and the hackers sent this out from the mail
(Hi,

I hope you are good? Actually, I need a favor from you. I'd appreciate if you could email me back when you get this ASAP.

Be safe and well,

Thanks,
Realname-of-the-person )
Now All you need to do is keep your brain on .
Why would someone contact me its urgent but not tell why?.
Well i can tell you why ! Because the scammers do not know if your email is active from their list or not untill you reply= they got you and can sign you up to spam and scams on sell your mail address.

Now I can see how this scam bait could fool you if you do not think hmm ... Hmm mm that looks legit but it's off.
Don't reply on that mail use other means just like i did i picked up the landline and called Her

Scammers actually have never 'turned up on my doorstep' and wouldn't get in the door if they did.

Seriously ? Theres NO way anyone with half a brain or more could possibly belive that is anything but an attempt at a scam.

The best thing to do, imo, is not to answer the call. If you answer the call, the bot will know that there is a "live" person at the other end.

Yeah I have fun with them, even made one guy burst out laughing. It doesn't have to be a scary experience.

I heard a first hand account today of an interaction with a phone scammer. Apparently after a few words were exchanged the scammer made an obviously false police complaint saying someone had been shot at this particular residence. This was followed by a visit from the AOS...

Better not to interact with them at all...

We had a phone call yesterday telling us we had a problem with internet. I asked the person if I could transfer them to our IT department. They said O'K I said we call it the NZ Police. Funny they hung up.

Do you really think that a scammer has the time or energy to chase some sad little kiwi who annoyed him?

tegretol - 2021-05-19 19:55:00

But they are usually in India (I have nothing against Indians, but this is where most of the scam call centres are for some reason), so are unlikely to be able to turn up on your doorstep.

I'm getting the occasional Chinese language auto-call, that's about it. Unless you want to count the JW's showing up as a scam.

chinese ones serpentza explained that one.
What they do is claim your people in china are in jale and will be killed by government unless you pay along the lines of fines or else that type. And it works because they know what happens if it was true and not a scam call.

Following enquiries with the bank, Police arrested and charged three men residing in Auckland in relation to alleged money laundering offending.

The men, aged 31, 28 and 26, will appear in the Auckland District Court this month.

Detective Senior Sergeant Bridget Doell says while the phone scammers operate offshore, they typically recruit people in New Zealand to transfer the money into offshore accounts.
