USB Ports.

#Post
1

Its about new PC time.

I need to have about 8 - 10 dedicated USB ports.

Currently using a USB hub and its not that successful, often get hangs and non starts on the most essential ports.

Will a new PC have this number of real USB ports available?

Win10 OS, and I have to stay with Windows for some applications.

Thanks

. No laptop will have that many ports. A desktop could have extra USB port cards installed but you'd have to get that done, (and that wouldn't/ couldn't happen on an all-in-one desktop). Just use a powered hub. Then you shouldn't have problems.

Is your current USB hub powered?

Depending on what you buy, a desktop can easily have that. My seven year old desktop has six USB ports at the back and two at the front.

Not a laptop.

And yes it is powered.

One particular application is noted for running its USB connection really hard out.

A friend of mine ended up with a high end Asus motherboard for all his USB needs (Sim racing kit, VR headset all other peripherals). Just found the motherboard, it has 11 USB type A ports on the back. This would mean building a new PC around this motherboard, but it is possible.

Probably because it causes a bottle neck, all those usb ports trying to work through the one port. As nice lady says you won't find a laptop with that many ports but you will a desktop.

I have never said anything about a laptop, currently use a desk top but its getting a bit hiccupy.

Have a look at the gaming motherboards, for example the Gigabyte Z590 AORUS ULTRA

On that I'm counting 12 USB ports, 1 USB-C, and headers for another 6 USB and 1 USB-C (you'll need cables to a backplane bracket).

I'm using an old Small Form Factor Dell 7010 which has 10 ports; 4 on the front and 6 on the back.
