Do you mean your browser is storing your login passwords ?
If so what browser ?
ie Crome, Edge, Firefox etc
Each browser has a slightly different way to get to stored passwords.

When the system asks you if you want to store passwords, if it's for the bank DO NOT click yes. The computer won't just automatically store passwords it's asks you. DON'T store bank passwords.

Thanks. We are not aware of any instruction to store this info, we are well aware of the danger involved in this, It happened once about 2 years ago, can't remember the fix to unstore . Cheers

Yes, I never allow ANY at all to be stored.
In Firefox you can go to Preferences, Privacy, Passwords and show saved passwords then delete them.

Open a Chrome Window.
Click on the three dots on the top right corner. Select Settings.
Select Passwords. ...
To delete an individual password, click on the three dots next to it and select Remove.
To delete all passwords, go to Clear Browsing Data from Settings -> Advanced and select Passwords.

My brother is bad at remembering so he has a book..not written in full...for instance say he has abc123zyx as one (he doesn't) then he'd write a...1...z...
Works.
I just remember them. If you use them all the time, you remember...it's when you don't use them it's hard.

What about password managers eg Lastpass, are they any good?

You're still trusting it to the cloud or your own PC

imho, if you have trouble with passwords on a reasonably frequent basis, you should NOT be using password managers. It's only a matter of time before you have trouble with the master password...

I have also seen a couple of password managers with corrupt databases, which is just as fateful

I use dashlane, its great. If you many passwords for many services & sites, and you shouldn't "use the same password" or a simple to guess variant.
While I use dashlane, I don't save my banking password in that.

That doesn't follow at all. You are far less likely to have trouble managing one password than 50 or more.

Corrupt databases? where were these databases held?
