Increased insulation & new laws would push a lot of rentals here off the market.
Houses were cheap during the 80's-2003, so people didnt maintain them as ' a new roof will cost 10% of the value of the house'.
The house that sold for $14k in 2001 sold for 75k in 2012 & sold last week for $150k. Its had a new roof, guttering, clean & paint, heat pump, in that time.

I flatted in Ettrick street. The house was falling apart. Two traction engines sinking into the back yard... cool.

my husband lived in an original old farmhouse in P North. The toilet was an outhouse. One night a tree took that out lol. It was literally falling apart. Weatherboards dropping off. Hardly any paint left It was still there in about 2000 but the grass had taken over. Long gone now. New houses everywhere.

I lived in a number of condemned houses, tents and caravans when I was a kid. One house was two storey, and my bedroom had hole in the floor, convenient for midnight pit-stops. One night I was using it and someone started yelling and swearing. I was peeing on a drunk guy downstairs.
