Question about home phone and fibre

#Post
1

We had fibre installed and Chorus told me that they would also connect up the old existing phone jacks to the fibre enable us to use the phone jackpoints as normal. But when I connect the phone into them I only get beep beeb beep etc. . I am subscribed to home phone and I can connect into the modem and it works. Am I missing something. Just an old guy here so not that up to date

beep beep beep is a good sign it's connected to something at the other end. Contact the company you're subscribed to an report the fault.

I have fibre and phone and when I use the phone I get around 6 successive short beeps and then the dial tone. It has done this ever since it was installed 5 years ago. Otherwise it works fine.

Most likely the internal phone wiring is still connected to copper line at external termination point (ETP) and Chorus did a disconnect in exchange.

You need someone to physically disconnect copper from ETP and make sure its connected internally to the modem phone port.

@spyware - I recently had fibre installed at this house we bought and Chorus used a hybrid cable that bought in Fibre and copper - if I understand you correctly, Chorus had the work order and connected the OP's by "connect up the old existing phone jacks to the fibre" and your view is that it's still connected back to a point in the exchange that Chorus have disconnected as per their work order.

I'm not disagreeing with you, my longheld view is that Chorus and their previous partner Spark are on a race to incompetence.

And has Chorus done so?
If phone is not actually working, (never mind beeps) test it, ring someone and then have them ring you back, then, if faulty, contact your provider to lodge a fault.

Tested it several times and there is Just this continues beep and makes no difference if I try and phone out and still continues beeping. Looks like a Chorus job so will make contact

Sounds like your home phone provider (spark vodafone etc.) has not enables the voice circuit. As it is beeping your local connections are all OK, UNLESS the installers have connected your phones to the wrong voice circuit - should be circuit one of two or more.

Your voice circuit is telling you that there is a message waiting in your voicemail box.

Elderly relatives won't/can't ring mobiles.
