get it back. I use Thunderbird for my Spark (@xtra) emails and while cleaning up my download folder I deleted a file because I couldn't open it, assumed I didn't need it, and there it was - GONE!. I need access to some of my historical emails, plus future incoming ones too. I have a gmail account so I am not totally stranded but................anyone able to help please?

Yes, push Ctrl-Z.

Where was the file which you deleted? Was it on your computer on in your emails?

That should take you to the login page for your Xtra mail. Your old stuff 'should' be there.

Thanks nice-lady but it only gives today's emails. I am looking at trying to restore my laptop back to yesterday - I have googled (which isn't usually a good idea for me!) and found " restore to an earlier point, follow these steps" Hopefully to go back to yesterday when everything was working fine.
Save all your files. ...
From the Start button menu, choose All Programs→Accessories→System Tools→System Restore.
In Windows Vista, click the Continue button or type the administrator's password. ...
Click the Next button. ...
Choose the proper restore date. Is this recommended?

Restore is good.

However system restore does not reinstate deleted files.

Have you checked the recycle bin for the missing file? You can put it back if it's in there by just right clicking it and then left click on restore. Otherwise assuming it's not a data file but one that makes thunderbird work, you could simply try reinstalling thunderbird. That might repair it.

If it is via gmail go into their server and redownload it.
If Spark, well unlikely unless you use imap and not pop.

Took my laptop to my granddaughter who found it in the 'deleted files' and restored it. I have now received strict instructions' DO NOT TOUCH THE DELETE OPTION AGAIN' It's a learning curve, that's for sure. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and help.

Post #8 I mentioned looking for it in the recycle bin, (deleted files) and restoring it.

Anyway good you got it sorted.
