USB sticks

#Post
1

I diligently recorded a whole heap of stuff onto five different USB sticks, now they wont play on my computer. They were recorded off a laptop since sold, and an older all in one computer. I have a 5 year old all in one (ACER) none of my USB's will open, and some of them hold important stuff, like my life story for instance.
Any hope of retrieving this stuff?

Yes, are you running Windows 10 on your computer?

What do you mean 'recorded'

Did you save this info onto the usb from some particular program ? For instance what program did you use to create your life story? How did you then transfer the life story onto the usb key?

Do you get any error message when attempting to open anything you have on the usb key and if so what is the EXACT message ?

Do the USB sticks show am available with Windows Explorer on the laptop, or do you get the error when you plug them in?

Does it show files on them?

As you say 'play' perhaps they are media files. Do you have a player on them that can play the file types?

Yes there is hope if there is in fact something on them but I really think you need to take them to a computer technician, they will have the know how and shouldn't cost too much either. GL

If they have gone a bit funny, use a programme called photorec to get the files off, however it doesn't recover file names. But it might just need opening up in a different operating system.

It'd be nice if the OP came back with more info about the type of file, how they were created and any error messages ................

Even better would be what stated size of the sticks
Where purchased from & price (If you are awake on a Sunday, you will know what I am thinking)
Did they check the stick contents after the copy session.

Valid points mate. But in this case I'd suspect Pebkac as the likely problem.
