I am just trying to get some information for a couple, 1 had owned a property several years ago, 1 is a first home owner. What and who can they apply to. I know there are grants etc out there, but am unsure where to go about doing all of these things, before going to the bank etc. Thanks for any information.

Perhaps a buyer's agent could be able to help and advise them.
A family member purchased their first home recently and found a buyer's agent very helpful and well worth the cost.

Advise them to go to a broker, especially if they at high loan to value. The broker will let them know all about the grants and how to apply, whether or not 'second chance' applies and which lender is best suited. (in the interests of transparency I am a broker, not promoting my services)

OP - not all buyers agents are created even. There are independent buyers agents, but not in all areas, but many "buyers agents" are just glorified sales people employed by agencies.

If you don't pay them, they don't work for you.
