I think finding what you want for the right price would be harder than selling your place-as anything would sell for the right price, while you might not be able to find what you want fast enough. I know someone who was looking for 2 years till they found what they liked. They then moved there and sold their place quickly-all this happening in Auckland. selling and just sitting with cash for even a year might devalue your money-plus you might be tempted to use it for paying rent while you are looking-not ideal...
