fibre issue

#Post
1

We have moved into a house with an existing fibre connection using a Chorus type 200 ONT. We have plugged in a wifi router but not getting anywhere. Cable goes from GE1 port to the WAN port on the router, is that correct? We can connect to the wifi but there is no internet. Lights on the ONT appear OK, green optical and green power and orange LAN1. The wifi router is just a plan wifi router with 4 LAN ports and 1 WAN port and was working fine on a standard broadband connection.. Whats wrong? Thanks.

We have also plugged a laptop directly into the ONT using the network cable but just get unidentified network message.

Have you got an account with your ISP? If your account/plan isn't tied to the ONT, it won't work.

That won't work.

The connection at the new house, as above, have you indeed setup a connection at the new house And is it the same provider you had at the old house ? The router you've plugged into the ONT - is that the correct router for the provider you have at the new house ?

Yes we signed up with Spark and they said they would start the service this morning.

Your best bet is to contact spark.

Well my guess is that just plugging in a router to your ONT which was previously running off an Adsl modem and expecting it to work - well it's not going to .

As above, a modem that was set up for ADSL won't work on Fiber without reconfiguring it and this might not be possible if its not a multi use modem.

Was it a spark supplied modem as it may need the VLAN part setting up if it wasn't

You need a fibre ready modem speak to ur provider.

First make sure Spark have actually enabled the service. Second make sure you have the correct settings in the modem....or get a new one off Spark.

You would need to follow network wizard and create a PPPoE connection. Then tag the connection with vlan id=10, may not be obvious with most nic drivers how to do this.

Or make sure any router is configured with PPPoE and vlan id=10.

By default any router you used behind another adsl router would have been configured with DHCP on WAN interface, hence it won't work on Spark fibre without reconfig.
