Why is my cell phone not charging?

1 | I have a samsung s5 mini and it's not charging today. is it likely to be the charger, the phone or the battery? freesia - 2021-04-03 09:27:00 |
2 | Could be a small break in the charging wire. have you moved it around a bit while attached to see if it works in a different position? hezwez - 2021-04-03 09:36:00 |
3 | You'll have to use a process of elimination Edited by nice_lady at 9:45 am, Sat 3 Apr nice_lady - 2021-04-03 09:44:00 |
4 | Also worth restarting the phone to see if it changes it's attitude. gyrogearloose - 2021-04-03 09:51:00 |
5 | Sometimes the charging port on the phone gets full of dust etc and stops it charging. The dust etc can also get transferred into the charging cable. Give them both a bit of blowing out. The charging wire is the next most likely, so try a different charger and wire. Next possibility is the charging port on the phone. It is highly unlikely to be the battery. duncb - 2021-04-03 10:28:00 |
6 | Try charging another phone on the same wire, see if it charges. That will eliminate the wire and power supply. tygertung - 2021-04-03 11:45:00 |

Good thinking, (so long as they have another phone lol). nice_lady - 2021-04-03 13:49:00 |
8 | Is it the same charger you've always used? There is a Samsung Galaxy here that wont charge using any charger, it will only accept the one charger. Is a bit of a pain in the bum, have to make sure noone takes that particular charger away :o/ muppet_slayer - 2021-04-03 20:46:00 |

That doesn't make sense. A ordinary charger is simply a transformer which puts out 5V and 0.5-2.4A usually, (depending on that particular charger). nice_lady - 2021-04-04 03:08:00 |
10 | There's some fast charging technologies where the charger, cable and phone negotiate higher voltage to charge faster. For example: https://www.androidauthority.com/fast-charging-explained-889 which includes the statement "The best results are typically achieved by using the cable and charger supplied in the box with your handset" which wouldn't be true if all chargers and cables were the same. gyrogearloose - 2021-04-04 07:44:00 |
11 | I'm well aware of that I have an oppo with fast charge, (VOOC), but it's also perfectly capable of using any charger or USB C cable - it just charges slower if you don't use the matched charger and cable supplied. Edited by nice_lady at 7:49 am, Sun 4 Apr nice_lady - 2021-04-04 07:48:00 |
12 | S5's are ancient (for a phone), probably the socket is loose, worn, or broken, or the battery is dead. bitsnpieces2020 - 2021-04-04 09:03:00 |
13 | nice_lady wrote: I know it doesn't make sense but electronics can be strange sometimes. Maybe it's the phone? I bought a universal charger from Kmart for it, wouldn't work but worked on other phones in the house, and I tried several other chargers and they didn't work either but they too worked on other phones, but then I tried a samsung one, and yes it is 5v 1.0 amp and it worked. It is still a mystery as to why. It's a samsung galaxy DUOS GT S7562. muppet_slayer - 2021-04-04 09:59:00 |
14 | Does it only work with a specific cable? nice_lady - 2021-04-04 11:09:00 |
15 | nice_lady wrote: Are you talking to me or OP? If you are talking to me I am going to try it now, I was wondering the same thing. Finding other cables could be a problem though. I know I have tried chargers with non removable cables and they didn't work. muppet_slayer - 2021-04-04 16:25:00 |

You, now, lol. Process of elimination to see why the phone only accecpts one charger, or whether the problem is just a cable or what. Edited by nice_lady at 4:49 pm, Sun 4 Apr nice_lady - 2021-04-04 16:48:00 |
17 | nice_lady wrote: I am confused now lol. I tried 2 other chargers with removable cables, a cheap anko and a huawei, and they both worked the way the cables were situated when I went to them, then I swapped the two cables around and only the huawei charger would work. Both cables worked in the charger that I use with the phone. So the anko charger wouldn't work with a particular cable, it is cable specific, so looks like you were right AGAIN lol muppet_slayer - 2021-04-04 17:07:00 |
18 | Hmm.... interesting nice_lady - 2021-04-04 17:21:00 |
19 | I had that problem and the seller told me the charging port was damaged. I went home and did a bit of Googling, which told me to clear the cache, which I did. No further problem since. So much for the charging port being damaged. deecee2 - 2021-04-05 15:59:00 |

You're kidding. Actually a quick Google says that's possible. But you know what - I'd put that possibility at the bottom of a pile of 100 other things I'd consider first Edited by nice_lady at 4:11 pm, Mon 5 Apr nice_lady - 2021-04-05 16:07:00 |

I did try a few things first, but oddly enough, that was the one thing that worked. deecee2 - 2021-04-05 16:12:00 |
