What size SD card for 1080p video recording.

#Post

I am wanting to make some videos of some engineering projects I am working on. I only have a 4gb card at the moment which fills up pretty fast.

Is a 64 GB card big enough or should I go for 128 GB? The 64 GB cards are a bit cheaper.

It's a bit of a how long is a piece of string question because there are so many variables involved.
But I suppose to be specific to your case, find out how many hours of footage you have on your 4gb card and times it by 16 and 32 respectively.

The amount will depend of time will depend how many frames per second you record at. A 64gb card may well be big enough but you can get suitable 128Gb cards for under $50 so you are not looking at a major cost. Make sure the device you are recording on will take a 128Gb card before you buy one

As well as the resolution setting and the compression algorithm used by the camera. Some people think that 480p can look good on YouTube.

Some 480p videos on youtube can look a lot better than other 1080p videos on youtube. It depends on the quality of the camera. Same as how some 8.2 megapixel cameras take much better photos than other 20 megapixel cameras.

Difference between full digital & optical plus digital can be huge.
My old old 3mp camera I used to use could outclass the other 10mp cameras I had here for daytime photo's

I ended up with an Apacer 128 GB micro SD card and adaptor from PB tech for only $25. The SD cards have really come down in price.

Now I just need to make the dummy battery and 18650 external power pack so I don't need to continually charge the battery.

The last time I bought a camera card from PB Tech I had to ask the assistant because the cards were on the shelf behind the counter and I wanted to eyeball the packaging, and the girl advised me against buying a micro SD card and adapter because she claimed the adapter slowed down the write speed, so I bought a full size class 10 SDXC. I was skeptical that the adapter had any logic in it.

I think the adaptor just has some wires in it, no chips.
