Some EXACT info from you about how you access your emails will help.

Firstly we need to know who your email is with. It is usually the the part of the email address after the @. Eg gmail.com , xtra.co.nz Secondly we need to know as nice_lady says how you look at your emails. Do you open a browser such as Chrome, Edge Firefox or do you use a an App on your computer such as Thunderbird, Outlook, Mail, Windows live......

Hi OP, spam emails are VERY annoying. Additionally, different telecom companies may deal with them differently, which is why the extra info is required. I use outlook, either through the web or through the program on my computer, and because it is a work computer, neither the "ignore" nor "junk" functions or buttons work for spam.

I'm a pensioner too, but I worked in IT, so you being a pensioner isn't the issue.
Stop perpetuating that myth.
Windows 8 or something? You could join Seniornet, there is one in all areas, and it's run by over 50s for over 50s....so you could learn what you want to know there.

Can't answer the blacklist question because I have no idea if this is a phone app, email filter or who your email provider is, what email program you use etc.

When I google the error message you gave, the first answer is:

https://help.trademe.co.nz/hc/en-us/articles/360018909172-Yo
ur-Blacklist

And since we're all here on TradeMe I'll take a wild guess. Line 4 shows how to remove someone, and then use step 3 to add the new black.

You haven't told us how you look at them, for example I use Outlook to view most of mine.

is it your trademe blacklist you are talking about.

gypsypom - 2021-03-18 15:23:00

I think it's the email blacklist, some of the email clients like Outlook do have a limit. He's not overly talkative and doesn't read properly the info that's asked for.

Oh ffs. It was a trademe blacklist ? And you never mentioned that?

Gryo musta polished up his crystal ball for that one. Most of us round here - our crystal balls are long ago dead from over use.

OP said it was xtra email in post #8, hence my reply... I guess the OP was the one throwing out the red herrings - can't see anywhere where OP said it was a Trademe problem... Hats off to Gyro for figuring that one out...

Yeah. And even post#8 doesn't detail how they were accessing the mail and that can definitely have an effect on blacklist and other functionalities.

no it was not a TARDME blacklist , that might be why i did not mention it ,,, now run along ... i did say email black list , dont worry i dont blame you for the education system failing to teach you compression

well i thought that i said in post 1 "" blacklist sender " i thought that would give people a hint it was an email problem not TARDME related once again i blame the education system

well thanks to one helpful person i got it sorted ,, now carry on sniping im out of here

thanks again Gyro

right then... those instructions Gyro gave you went straight to the TRADEME blacklist. it lists TRADEME members usernames, nothing to do with email which you seem to think it is... but all good, it's sorted thats the main thing...

is that a freudian slip I see?

king1 - 2021-03-18 23:13:00

Well..........I don't see how messing about with the Trade Me blacklist is going to add extra slots to any email blacklist. OP's user name seems to be a match made in heaven.

Speaking of blacklists and OPs username......

skull wrote:

There's a couple of actions you can do on TradeMe that will generate an email to another member, and because that email arrives in your inbox from 'mailer@trademe.co.nz'-
it's awkward to block using your mail client because that would block every email from TradeMe.

The actions I can think of are: having a question asked on your auction (and this chap lists vintage motorcycle parts); putting something on your watchlist which is then relisted over and over; and marking a trader as a favourite.

If you blacklist a trader, it stops these emails. There's also some options on https://www.trademe.co.nz/MyTradeMe/EmailOptions.aspx to reduce the number of notifications generally but these are not against a specific trader.

Actually I thought I'd get flak about saying 'adding a black to the list' - it's more PC now to use 'denylist' or 'blocklist' rather than using terms of colour...

the instructions Gyro gave , which were TARDMEs are EXACTLY the same procedure one uses to fix the email blacklist problem ,,, as you posted so it s a dead issue now ,,,

what i really do not understand is why a simple question like this has caused me to receive snide remarks ... i do not understand that aspect of human nature , but i consider they say more about the person making the remark than they do about the "target of it" UNREAL

ignoramus1 - 2021-03-19 08:07:00

Maybe this is why people lose patience:
"I have widows 8.5 or something

I am a pensioner so please just easy answer , not highly technical stuff i wont understand ok "

lythande1 - 2021-03-19 08:13:00
30

and just for clarity
I followed Gyros instruction on my EMAIL page and , as the procedure was the same it helped me clear my EMAIL black list , which i believe i said was what i was trying to do

DANG some people simply make an assumption , stick to it , and when they are shown they are incorrect they make snide remarks hiding behind a keyboard ...honestly what is it with people ?

not everyone lives in a word dominated by computers BS you know ... I have not idea about the technical details of my computer ,,,i dont know a whole lot about washing machines either ,,, i just use them to do a job ,,, i have far more interesting REAL things to do i n life that sit there staring at a sceen ...have a nice day

ignoramus1 - 2021-03-19 08:17:00

AND just for the record i have a very small Tm blacklist i only put someone on it when i see they have shocking feedback so i dont want them to bid on stuff i am selling ok

ignoramus1 - 2021-03-19 08:24:00

so the only remaining question is how on earth did Gyros instructions for the Trade Me blacklist help OP fix his email blacklist problem. One of life's great mysteries I guess...

That's nice and all but try and remember that the folks that can help you with these sorts of problem do tend to stare at screens all day (usually by necessity, paying the bills etc) - help might not be so forthcoming next time if you alienate everyone...

For all their kicking and screaming the OP never said HOW they access their emails. A legitimate question and very useful, in many cases critical, to ascertain suggested fixes for email issues.

Doh.

nice_lady - 2021-03-19 10:46:00

well, ignoramus - your attitude is terrible.
There are people here who were trying to help you and all you have done is post sarcastic insults and accused them of not being able to understand you
But you refused to give any extra information when asked and to top it off, your response 'i thought that would give people a hint' just about sums the whole thing up.
In future, if you want people to help you out of the goodness of their hearts, explain the problem clearly, answer any questions and try to be greatful that you have this FREE resource available to you.

kateley - 2021-03-19 10:47:00

And by inference their statement: ", i have far more interesting REAL things to do i n life that sit there staring at a sceen" is a HUGE put down of those people they've come here asking for help from.

Hows this:
Me: My car won't work.
Mechanic: Describe symptoms, noises, lack of, starts or not starts, etc...
Me: Doesn't go, I don't know these technical details I just drive it.

Same thing. You were asked to clarify a couple of things, so one guy took a guess and guessed correct, but it makes it a lot easier if you actually answer the questions rather than having a snot because you were asked.
