Help.. Neighbour has complained about photos

#Post
1

My elderly parents have put their house on the market through a real estate agent today. The real estate agent has informed my parents that their next door neighbour has made a complaint that their home is on there photos. Is this common? Does my parents need to worry about this.... I do feel for neighbour as they have a beautiful home and who ever will purchase my parents property will pop up a bunch of town houses on the land.

Tell em not to worry. Houses are visible from other houses. This is not an issue.

Thanks, it seemed so weird to me.

I know of people who have got annoyed where drone footage shows detail of their property otherwise not visible, but even then they don't have much level ground to stand on.

I mush Amit I wouldn’t be happy about that as well.
I know there’s the satellite photos available to everyone
But they can be old photos.
I don’t really want a updated photos of what’s in my back yard.
I guess if there’s a drone flying around taking photos I could run around the back yard naked.
They would only look at the photos once .????

Last year there was a drone filming overhead near our house for a real estate photo so I just stood in the yard with my fingers in the sky! I know! How old am I right?

If it's drone photos the neighbours actually have a legal leg to stand on as you are legally bound to get permission from anyone whose house is visible from the drone images.

yes I think drone photos are a bit invasive (hence my above behaviour)

Yeah and it's all over the net anyway, Google maps, REA map sites, Homes site, etc etc.

Are they ashamed of it or something?
LOL....

for the drones - get yourself a paintball gun - a few shots and you can shoot them down :)

its probably no worse than what anyone could see if they searched the property on google maps, try to keep things nice with them and perhaps talk to them but ultimately the photos are not up for long, if they are really unreasonable you could always ask the agent to replace the photo.

Surely it entirely depends on what can be seen from the photos! Personally I like to try and maintain good relationships with my neighbour if it just one or two photos just delete them from the listing and replace with arty photos of a bunch of flowers or a loaf of banana bread. It’s what people round here are doing!!

They haven't got something growing in their garden or roof space they don't want the country to see have they?

Legally
If the photo's are taken from a public spot, Eg: footpath/ road, then theres nothing anyone can do unless the photo's are clearly and specifically looking in to the house rooms.

Tho, the agent should have been aware to not include too much of the surrounding area around the sale property in the photo's.
Sometimes it's simply unavoidable for the sake of ambiance of that location area

The law is a little strange in that regard.
You can't be stopped taking photo's/ film from a public place looking on to private property (only proviso is internal house shots)
BUT.
You could be charged for taking photo's/ film from a private place on to public area's

Have heard of several ppl that the councils & cops have asked the owners to realign their security camera's away from the footpath
