| Sorry, technically challenged! Just installed a new Spark Wireless Modem and connected my landline phone to it. Do I have to keep the modem/wifi power on 24 hours a day to have my phone working? Thanks. tracy0073 - 2021-03-11 14:19:00 |

| If your worried about power useage don't be. A modern/router will use very very little. nice_lady - 2021-03-11 16:23:00 |
| Thanks. I was concerned about the power usage, but also just having the wifi blasting out constantly without being needed. tracy0073 - 2021-03-11 18:55:00 |

| and have a read up here - 'blasting out constantly' is not what actually happens king1 - 2021-03-11 19:22:00 |

Put a tinfoil hat on the modem leaving a few cracks for the cell signal to get through. spyware - 2021-03-12 08:48:00 |
| I wouldn't.....I had to once while waiting on fibre to be installed (copper had died)...and it was terrible. Echo on the ph, really slow laggy internet. Worse than adsl. lythande1 - 2021-03-12 08:58:00 |
| We've got 4G internet here. It is lightning fast, much faster than ADSL and really reliable. It is on skinny. tygertung - 2021-03-13 10:04:00 |
| Christchurch is thoroughly cabled with the magic optical fibre and hopefully Enable will be rolling out 2 and 4 Gbps symmetrical XGS-PON options soon. Edited by spyware at 11:04 am, Sat 13 Mar spyware - 2021-03-13 11:03:00 |

| Incorrect, the router does the routing (and access point as in toy ISP routers). ONT is always configured as a bridge (and media converter from GPON to copper Ethernet) unless you are on a hyperfibre (XGSPON) plan (in which case it's configured as a router with Orcon and choice of router or bridge with myRubbishpublic). Note: Chorus implementation of router in ONT for hyperfibre is quite limited in function. Edited by spyware at 3:31 pm, Sun 14 Mar spyware - 2021-03-14 15:24:00 |

This world has so many invisible electromagnetic waves flying around all the time your worries about 'WIFI Blasting' are a waste of time. As for power usage the modem/router might cost $0.50c per month. Edited by nice_lady at 9:37 pm, Sun 14 Mar nice_lady - 2021-03-14 21:34:00 |
