HP Reverb G2 on gaming Laptop - Problem

#Post
1

Family recently purchased G2 for use on an Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro 7-593G-77UP - Core i7 with GTX1060. We realised this might be problematic. The laptop has no display port so we got a DP to USB-C adapter. The USB-C plug on the G2 has a usb-c to USB-A adapter and is plugged into a USB 3 port on the laptop. The DP to USB-C adapter plugs into the USB-C port on the laptop. We are getting error 1-4. Plenty on google about this, but no help. Windows gives an error about a USB device having a problem. I am wondering if the USB-C port on the laptop is deficient in some way but I dont know how to test this.
I also didnt mention that we tried a second DP to USB-C adapter, this one certified as being DP 1.4. The first was probably DP 1.2.
Does anyone have personal experience with gaming laptops and the HP G2? My next move at this time is to take the laptop in to have the usb ports checked. Would a PC tech have the necessary devices to test properly?
Any thoughts??

Thanks
Jeff

you need a DP 1.3 on the laptop. According to the spec sheet
https://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c06630565.pdf

Theres nothing about support for adapters for USB-3 to DP. Not sure why you'd think it'd work.

You're better off with a desktop for running the G2. You're already under the minimum specs for your GPU and it's probably going to overheat quickly and start throttling even lower.

At best you're going to end up with poor frame rate and generally poor experience, Probably going to result in everyone getting motion sick from the poor FPS.
