1 | "Terrance De Souza just wants a home for himself and his dog. Now aged 70 and unable to get work for the first time in his life, De Souza has fewer than two weeks to find a house – or else he will be homeless. De Souza immigrated to New Zealand from Singapore 35 years ago and worked as a cleaner until leaving his job a few years ago due to health issues. He had been unable to find work since and had cycled in and out of emergency housing, most recently at Fernhill Motor Lodge, where he lives now......" “I could live in my car with my dog, or buy a tent. If push comes to shove, I’ll do that.” I would hate to think this 70 year old man will end up living in a tent or a car in Wellington's winter! Does anyone know someone who might be able to help? mazalinas - 2021-03-08 20:25:00 |

3 | It's not fair. Where are the pensioner flats or council flats for our senior citizens who don't have the means to buy their own homes? They used to be available. mazalinas - 2021-03-08 20:38:00 |

They are still available but the waiting list is growing faster, much faster than supply. The list is four times as big since Ms Ardern's government said they were now advising people they could apply. So they did. Thousands of households in emergency housing, now called transitional housing so no longer an emergency I guess. This person was offered community housing but made a decision to keep the dog. He is one of many and has apparently been in emergency housing for years off and on. Back in the fairly recent day folk like this man often lived in boarding houses, maybe not with a dog though. Interesting to know what the supply of boarding house rooms is these days as the rules around them are very different now. One near me is now upmarket apartments, previously would have housed at least 20, only ever saw men living there. artemis - 2021-03-09 07:34:00 |

There is still a criteria to be able to apply for Kainga Ora (HNZ) Housing, you saying the PM advised people to apply, is right but they still must meet the criteria, we also have a lot of people, who have gained NZ Residency , who can apply for Housing, they also have to meet the criteria, its not a Free fo rall , as you might suggest.. shortee2 - 2021-03-28 15:19:00 |

Quite well aware, it used to be my day job. Anyone can apply via the process, but may not make it to the waiting list. Point is that the Prime Minister and Ministers told us many times that the waiting list increased because the government now gives them the right information. Social housing waiting list up 51% Dec 2019 to Dec 2020. Making the info available is clearly working. artemis - 2021-03-28 16:01:00 |
