Tops falling off shoulders

#Post
1

My shoulders must be narrow for the rest of me. A lot of my tops fall off my shoulders. I have never been a big fan of having bra straps showing. Does anyone know how I could "fix" tops so they don't do this? I have wondered whether sewing a couple of darts on the neckline would help.

I am presuming that these are RTW tops not ones you have sewn yourself.
One fix would be to stitch bra strap holders to keep your bra strap from showing and this may also hold your top in place.
I make these for DD piece ribbon or tape example https://sewguide.com/lingerie-strap-holder-diy/

You can make the bra strap holders using thin ribbon and lightweight, clear plastic domes.

If the neckline has a "hem" you could thread narrow shirring elastic through which gathers neckline in a little. I have done this a couple of times and it works well. Don't pull elastic so tight that it shows big gathers though.

I use a bit of shirring elastic too and it works well. Some necklines are just too 'plunging' for a woman my age lol. I prefer not to show my wrinkles too much.

Sew a ribbon from one side of the shoulder seam to the other. Try it with safety pins first to get the correct distance. Some tops come with that ribbon at the back already.

it's also rounded shoulders.. I always had problems & love the spaghetti strap tops.. so have started making my own for me & I have the back of the strap closer to the centre & they stay on me a lot better :)

A man's answer is to stop wearing a bra and then the straps won't be visible!

I have this problem. My fix is to resew the shoulders from the neck and make the seam larger as you go to the side of the top. Try it on and see if it requires a larger seam. I think for myself it ends up a good 3/4 inch.
