How to sign an IRD pdf form

#Post
1

I have been asked to fill out an IRD 330C form via email and send it to the employer.
Although the form appears to be a PDF document, it allows me to fill out most fields and even has editing on some fields (e.g. the IRD number and dates)
The signature field has a hand over it, as if it is a link. But nothing happens when I click on it.
I have seen something like this before that has allowed me to write my signature with the mouse, but not here. Other countries have pages explaining how to sign a form, but not NZ.
My searches of the IRD website all give the answer "We couldn't find any results matching your search term"

You obviously stressed Mr Google to its limit.

I don't understand the explanations which are poorly written. If you know the answer, you could be more helpful.

Hold the mouse button down and wiggle your hand.

So do I have to pay Adobe Acrobat to sign the form?

I have Ubuntu, and Firefox 85.0.1

Google shows me:

Windows: Open the PDF in Adobe Reader and click the “Fill & Sign” button in the right pane.
Mac: Open the PDF in Preview, click the Toolbox button, then click Sign
iPhone and iPad: Open the PDF attachment in Mail, then click “Markup and Reply” to sign.
iPhone and Android: Download Adobe Fill & Sign, open the PDF, and tap the Signature button.
Chrome: Install the HelloSign extension, upload your PDF, and click the Signature button.

So, none of the above.

Or print - sign - scan (smart phone work ok for this also using apps like office lens to square out a document etc) and email. The old school way...

That just selects the text on the form that is not able to be changed.

I don't have a working printer.
There is clearly a way to do this online.

Screen shot the bit you want to sign - add you signature with a paint program. You trying to sign a document with you mouse - assume quality isn't too much a priority.

Does clicking the highlit section for signing not work for you?

It says "Free 7 day trial" down the bottom. That implies that I have to get some software and pay for it. Ubuntu does not allow any software to be installed unless it is approved by Ubuntu. That stops viruses etc.

We have adobe acrobat reader free download.
https://get.adobe.com/reader/
if you can download with with ubuntu be sure to untick all the optionals so you don't install mcafee or chrome extension. We've never paid. If ubuntu doesn't let you download this, I'm sorry I can't help. I'm just an old office lady who knows how it works for me through windows and firefox; but not other programs.

I have installed the acrobat reader. It is unable to find the PDF document after about 20 attempts.

I have found the document in Recent Files. When I try to open the file with the installed acrobat reader, the reader cannot be found.

278 reviews out 392 of Adobe Acrobat Reader (WINE) say that it doesn't work at all. So I guess I cannot fill out my IRD form.

Yes I can Photoshop my signature on to a copy of the form. So thanks for all the suggestions.
But the software should work. I was fairly happy with Win98SE. Why is software getting worse all the time? At least Ubuntu doesn't get viruses.

I have put the pdf document on a thumb-drive and opened it with Windows 10. Windows is unable to change the pdf document at all, so it is worse than Ubuntu. Why would an employer send a document to be changed and returned, if Windows and Ubuntu cannot change the document fully? As I have said, Ubuntu is able to change all of the document except the signature.

Was it your employer that emailed the form to to you? I would just complete what fields I could and email it back to them. Tell them you can't sign it so if that part is necessary they will have to print off a copy and post to you or hand to you at work.

The system requirements you posted earlier are quite clear - either use Chromium on Ubuntu with the correct extension or Windows with Adobe Reader.

I have now tried Chromium on Ubuntu. I don't know what the "correct extension" is. I can still change the document but cannot type anything into the signature field or sign it in any way.
We are not doing very well are we? I have spent a whole day on this.
The person with the Windows machine does not want to install Adobe Reader on his machine. Since it doesn't work on Ubuntu I shall uninstall it and give a bad review, like most others have done.

Which hand are you operating the mouse with?

I can't see the point of signing an online form. The dentist wanted my signature when I booked an appointment online and had to pay a deposit the other day. I paid but no way could I write a decent signature with the mouse! I managed a capital A, but the rest of it didn't look like anything. It's the same with the signature on a courier's smartphone - looks nothing like my normal signature so what is the point? Anybody could sign for me!

Yips i tried yesterday and basically impossible for me to sign using a mouse hehe

Chrome extensions work on Chromium (at least most of the time)

And if it doesn't, you can install chrome on ubuntu, you can even install edge.

1/ Install chrome
2/ "Chrome: Install the HelloSign extension, upload your PDF, and click the Signature button."
3/ uninstall chrome if you don't want it.

Fill the form out, print it, sign it, scan it and email it back to them?

It's OK, my employer has accepted the IRD form with a file name by my signature. My wages are in the bank. I shall now uninstall half a dozen useless picture programs.

Official documents are signed by Shift < F7 completed by acceptance then F10 0r F11 will either approve or ask you to reconsider your action.

If you are using Ubuntu does it have GIMP installed?
GIMP can import PDFs for editing as pictures. You can then re-print as PDF once signature added.(this could even be a scan or picture of hand written signature)

I have used GIMP in the past. It has to be the most truly horrible unintuitive piece of software ever written. I shall uninstall GIMP.
I have just used Kolourpaint and done the job.

I appreciate GIMP is an advanced program but I have found it very reliable for converting PDFs
Have you tried Libreoffice? You can drag and drop a pdf in to writer. Drag and drop a scan or picture of your signature. Press PDF creator button on toolbar.

It is no less intuitive than the commercial equivalent, Adobe Photoshop.
